West Ham youngsters continue poor league start

|

westleyWest Ham’s youngsters have got off to poor start in the Premier League Under 21 league after losing their second game on the trot. Despite being relegated from Division 1 last season, the Hammers have yet to score any points and remain second from bottom on goal difference just above Brighton.

West Ham lost 2-1 to West Bromwich Albion on their opening game of the season on 17th August and were beaten again 2-1 by Aston Villa yesterday at Rush Green. New signing Manuel Lanzini netted for the Hammers U21’s.

Academy manager Terry Westley described his disappointment to WHUFC.com

“The intensity which we try and play wasn’t there like it was against West Bromwich Albion, we got beat there but we came away really pleased with how we played and we felt that we could have won.”

“All our players are working so hard, and have been ever since pre-season started, that it is a shame to not be rewarded for our effort. But that’s football; you make your own luck. We have to stick to our principles, but tonight wasn’t our night.

“We didn’t play with what I would call the West Ham style.”

If you read the club’s website live updates of the game it’s a long way from how Westley described the game. So who’s lying?
