Another venture into Europe for the agent of the current Brazilian golden boot winner speaks volumes about his plan for the future. Whilst he spoke in the summer of 2024, and again in January that he was ‘happy at Corinthians, very happy to stay in Brazil’ – despatching his agent  across the Atlantic to try and find a club willing to pay the €25 million release clause speaks volumes.

West Ham did try to buy Yuri Alberto in 2023/4 for something around £13 million if I remember right – but were knocked back at that stage.

Sport Witness write today ” West Ham failed approach for striker – Southampton, Wolves in picture and agent travels..” Meaning in a few months Alberto will be ready, willing and able to make the move if a club stumps up the price required by Corinthians.

And compared with the crazy €30 million asked by Ajax for the Brian Brobbey signature just a few weeks ago, Alberto as the highest scorer in the Brazil top flight last year ( he broke all sorts of records along the way) would be a pretty safe bet.

60 goals in 158 appearances for Corinthians speaks for itself – and at 23 he’s the perfect age. Already travelled a bit of a football journey, Alberto started a season for Zenit St Petersburg before the Russian – Ukrainian conflict. Alberto won’t suffer, therefore, from the ‘cannot settle’ malaise suffered by Niclas Fullkrug – and at nine years younger he’s a tad more robust too.

Whoever shells out the €25 million will find themselves in possession of a very potent goal threat. Let’s hope his agent is stopping in London this time around.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
