West Ham’s Aguerd replacements | Deadline day steal possible

Ahead of deadline day West Ham do seem to be happy to jettison want-away Nayef Aguerd who by all accounts was the guilty party in the “West Ham player refuses to travel’ story of the weekend. The emphatic victory away at Nottingham Forest will, if anything, have cemented the decision to sell the moroccan as the defence without him finally found some backbone.

According to foot-africa.com, Aguerd’s personal terms are agreed with Olympique Marseille but there remains just 24 hours for the French side to strike a bargain with West Ham over the transfer fee: you sense that they’ll be pushing at an open door.

Championship defender Taylor Harwood Bellis is now the firm favourite to join from Southampton to replace Aguerd, according to Londonworld.com, in their article:“West Ham now want ‘incredible’ Championship star ” . The publication quotes theSun.co.uk as their main source of info-

“West Ham are keen on Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who is valued at around the £20m mark.”

Could be one to watch tomorrow with the drama of late dashes for medicals and last minute unveilings. The full England centre-back has been on West Ham’s watchlist since the Winter and would be a good young prospect at an affordable price to add depth in place of the outgoing 29 year old want-away Moroccan.

In addition the Irons have, as previously written, been considering a late move for England u21 international Charlie Cresswell:  It seems they are covering all the bases to make sure a replacement is brought in should agreement be finalised for Aguerd’s departure.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

I just got to thinking – and am lazy to check it out – when we were shipping 5 or 6 goals in Moyes’ last season, how many times was Aguerd playing?

I would be happy for him to leave – I think that some how or other it will happen

If we play 4 at the back then we need fewer central defenders – go on Potter be a devil and repeat yesterday’s formation

I’m thinking Cresswell may a better option as THB has been getting progressively worse.
We need a good old fashioned centre back, there has to be one around somewhere, academy? Other teams have no problem playing youngsters

  • Phil Baker says:

Aguerd , no heart , no soul , no loyalty . He’s just the sort of poisonous player that needs to be dumped ASAP . Bring in a young hungry player who’ll care about Westham .

Aguerd was one of the heroes of Prague mate. I think you should give him a bit more respect. Especially as you’re reacting to rumours that you don’t even know whether they are true or not.

We’ve heard these West Ham player refuses to travel stories before though and sometimes it turns out the player was either sick or they’d picked up an injury in training so how do we know there’s any truth in the refused to travel stories this time round?

  • Aleksandr says:

In my opinion, his level of play is no more than 10 million. To get rid of him I would even agree to a direct exchange of him for John Rowe from Marseille, that would be very cool.

    Please Cresswell 2.0
    Not Southampton 2.0

Cresswell for me is the better option and a better price but at least it will not be a late night for once waiting for the transfer window to shut

  • Jimbo 2 says:

I thought Irving did well when called upon today. Shame we can’t keep him. Would rather Guido and Cornet free up space in midfield.

  • Julian Woodhouse says:

But nothing about a younger, pacier striker 😞

  • jim says:

dont give aguerd a transfer stick him in the under 21s until he learns some respect.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Cresswell looks more like the type of player to replace Aguerd/Kilman on left side of defence, am a bit concerned that Kilman can be slow off the mark and has moments of ball watching, Harwood-Bellis is not bad but he has played more on the right side if his YouTube clips are anything to go by.

  • Garry crawford says:

Bellis only because of a salthouse client cresswell is a far better player and cheaper .
