West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez’s attempts to dodge speculation over a potential transfer to Manchester United may have inadvertently fuelled even more rumours.
Alvarez stated that his sole focus is on Mexico’s Copa America campaign despite interest from Man U, but he did not entirely rule out a potential move to Old Trafford.
Alvarez thrived under Erik ten Hag during their time together at Ajax, winning two Dutch titles before moving to the Premier League.
After a move to Chelsea fell through in 2022, Alvarez joined West Ham United last summer as a replacement for Declan Rice following his transfer to Arsenal.
Alvarez excelled during his first season in England, and now with Man Utd’s summer transfer plans revealed, they are planning on bringing him to Old Trafford as a replacement for Casemiro.
For now, however, Alvarez is concentrating on Mexico’s upcoming campaign rather than his club future.
“I can only tell you that I’m focused on what I have to do. I know that the Copa America is a very important tournament where the eyes of the world are basically here,” Alvarez said ahead of Mexico’s game against Jamaica on today.
“Later there will be time to see what there is or what there isn’t.”
Quite frankly this is the last thing West Ham need at this time. However, the player has shown in the past that he is more than willing to push for a move if there is interest elsewhere.
