West Ham’s Champions League chance

West Ham are gearing up for a serious challenge as we face Aston Villa in on Sunday. The Hammers have had an impressive start to the season, and this away game against Villa could potentially catapult us into contention for a spot in the Champions League. Currently, Villa hold a two-point lead over West Ham. They sit in 5th place in the Premier League, making this Sunday’s game crucial for both teams.

Whilst Villa have had a decent start domestically this season, their performance in European games has been inconsistent. On the other hand, David Moyes team have been at their best in the Europa League, allowing us to concentrate on the bread & butter domestic fixtures. Whilst this fixture won’t be a do-or-die situation for either team, a victory would provide a massive boost.

West Ham’s Champions League chance will be enhanced with a victory at Villa Park.

West Ham will have the luxury of fielding a well-rested James Ward Prowse and Lucas Paqueta, which should work in our favour. Additionally, Jarrod Bowen, despite featuring for England in a friendly against Australia, is expected to return to East London with high motivation and energy. Bowen will have loved training alongside the country’s best players, so I’d expect a good performance from him against The Villains.

Both managers understand the significance of the game at Villa Park and are likely to approach it cautiously, aiming not to lose. So an away draw would be considered a decent enough outcome for West Ham. With Brighton, currently in 6th place, facing the formidable Manchester City, there’s a genuine opportunity for West Ham to strive for a spot in the Champions League.
