West Ham’s Devastating £30M Transfer Blow

West Ham have picked an incredibly inconvenient time to suffer a dip in form — and news that the club could be in breach of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations is, sadly, hardly surprising.

Usually, bad news like this ahead of a transfer window would be taken with a pinch of salt, as West Ham have often pleaded poverty before previous windows.

However, anyone with a calculator and a copy of the Premier League prize money breakdown can see the problem clearly: the club are facing a potential £30m shortfall this season — and it has nothing to do with a lack of European football.

The Hammers’ alarming slide down the Premier League table is set to have a devastating financial impact. With £3.1 million awarded per league position, the difference between West Ham’s budgeted 8th-place finish and their current 17th-place standing has created a huge deficit. This has coincided with broadcasters choosing not to feature Hammers games on TV as frequently which bring with it extra revenue.

It’s worth noting that former boss Julen Lopetegui was replaced due to poor form and a worrying league position — but at the time of his departure, West Ham were sitting in 14th.

Since then, the Hammers have slipped even further down the table under Graham Potter, and it’s already cost the club an estimated £9.3m in lost prize money.

At a time when West Ham desperately need to overhaul the squad, this financial blow could severely handicap our transfer ambitions.

It would be unfair to lay all the blame at Potter’s feet — the club were in poor shape long before his arrival. But the team’s alarming tendency to concede late goals is now beginning to hurt the club both competitively and financially.

If Potter can’t engineer a turnaround before the season ends, West Ham’s summer transfer window could be looking very bleak indeed.

“If Potter can’t engineer a turnaround before the season ends,”

Seasons over, West ham are safe.

With the obvious exception of the end of season ‘Final’ Vs Tottenham Hubcaps this Sunday!

They’ve finally done it bled us dry ,set up a sacrificial lamb in potter and settling us up for a relegation and blame potter they run this club like politicians lie cheat and attack the weak then blame it on somebody else sick to death of this board

Whoever the manager would of been from January. We would still of struggled. It’s clear to see players out of contract and players who don’t want to be there .won’t play it happens at every club. I’ll judge next season when we have younger hungry players.

This is why it’s important to remember we do have something to play for! What a pile of shite. Potter is not the manager West Ham need, nor are 2/3rd of the team. Drastic changes needed or relegation fodder next season. Sod the rules and pay the fine.

maybe if david sullivan had paid to secure an in work manager like frank or Iriola we may have climbed the table. Such short sighted management from the board.Pathetic.

  • Hendo says:

If the club does manage to bid for players in the summer they will be further hampered because selling clubs are aware of our worsened cash flow forecast & possible fines if PSR is breached & thus will be less likely to allow the Hammers to pay in instalments or on “loan now but buy later” deals

Many bad decisions over the course of several years have brought Westham to this financial precipice . Bad recruitment by Sullivan and Moyes followed by bad recruitment by Sullivan and Lopetegui and now Potter a coach who merely achieved mediocrity with Brighton and garbage with Chelsea leaves Westham in a position where they’ll be a weaker team next season . I expect a relegation battle next season .

  • Andy Stone says:

Despite reassurances it seems the club is still being run like a circus but I’m not surprised.
