West Ham’s Dream Fades as Price Tag Soars

West Ham United‘s pursuit of AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori appears to have hit a stumbling block, with reports suggesting the Hammers are unlikely to meet the Rossoneri’s asking price.

This comes after the initial disappointment of missing out on Jean-Clair Todibo, who opted for a potential move to Juventus despite West Ham agreeing a deal with Nice.

While West Ham are keen to bolster their central defence after signing Max Kilman from Wolves earlier this summer, AC Milan value Tomori at a staggering €40m-€45m, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com. This figure is likely outside the Hammers’ current budget, especially considering the need for reinforcements in other areas as well.

West Ham’s outlay for Kilman will have limited their ability to commit another hefty sum for a central defender. However, potential outgoings could offer some relief. The Hammers are reportedly open to offers in the region of €20m for Nayef Aguerd, who could free up funds for further acquisitions.

West Ham fans face a wait and see approach as the club navigates the transfer market. As balancing squad needs with financial constraints could prove a delicate act for the Hammers.

Why do we always never get transfers done early, so they can go on pre season tour, instead of waiting till we’ve got off to a poor start.

  • Martin storrie says:

Dithering Dave? Not Moyes but Sullivan. All we do is make low offers for top players, miss out on them all, then pay over the top for has beens, which lose us money that could have been spent on the top players, stop dithering & sort it out Sullivan the season starts in just over 3 weeks. WE NEED PLAYERS URGENTLY.

    • Brendan says:

If Sullivan doesn’t sanction something soon Steidten will get fed up and go. Most of the players mentioned will have little interest in joining anyway. Too slow…looking for stupid discounts…shambles of a rebuild compared to MU effort. Need new owners

Augerd is now worth £20m? Moyes truly did a great job devaluing way too many of our players whilst so many clueless idiots still defend him

One of your transfer wet dreams, mate.

Do clubs really ‘dream’ of signing these players who their clubs have never said they want to sell, and players who re happy at their clubs?

  • Alan Carroll says:

Same old story, make ridiculous offer and sit back and say we tried.West ham will never be a big buying club but always on the lookout for cut prices. Why on earth people keep suggesting Toney as a possibility I don’t know ,way beyond there means.

  • Jeeps says:

    No surprise.
Aguerd is worth more than £20m or is this going to be a selling loss.
Another time wasting player who is out of budget.
    Move on to realistic possibilities.
As suggested above Oumar Solet or would that be to easier as they might say yes and get deal done.

  • PAUL GARNER says:

Why are we f…ing about, there is solet for 8 mill, great player, please dont lose him west ham.

  • Matt says:

He is worth €40m, which is not far off Todibo.

Much better signing than Kante. Having a league winner that is determined to get in the England team for the World Cup would be epic.

If we really are building a team to qualify for Europe, then we need proven quality additions like this. We paid £40m for Kilman so he is well worth the money.

    • Alan says:

Imagine that. The club thinks a player is ‘too expensive.’

I’m sure there are better value players (cheaper, ageing, injury prone types) that the clubs preferred agents can recommend.

Funny that the only deal that could be agreed was for a player that had no intention of joining. I’m sure that’s pure coincidence.

‘We tried’, ‘Razzle Dazzle’, ‘Borrow a player from PSG’ etc etc.
