Along with Aaron Cresswell, Vladimir Coufal and Danny Ings, veteran goalkeeper Lucas Fabianski is leaving the club at the end of the season so his last appearance at London Stadium will be in front of the home Hammers fans this afternoon. Although much was made of Aaron Cresswell’s leaving the club as vice captain, arguably the Polish shot stopper has been just as influential over the length of his stay since arriving from Swansea in 2018.
Posting his own ‘message to the West Ham family’ on whufc.com, “Fab” has thanked everyone – and I mean everyone – connected with his time as a Hammer:
“I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone connected with this beautiful Football Club for this beautiful journey…Not only the players, but a lot of the members of staff, the team behind the team. So, a massive thank you to them”
Fabianski singled out special thanks to the medical team and makes it clear he wouldn’t still be playing at 40 without their help. An inspirational figure at the club and one who has never complained or rocked the boat even during some pretty big ups and downs. West Ham will find it difficult to replace their Polish goalkeeper with another who combines skill and longevity.
Signing off with a clear comment that Fab ‘gets’ the club and what it means to be a Hammer:
“To the fans, I appreciate all of you, and I’ve always worked as hard as I can for you. Thank you for an amazing journey. I hope I represented your Club in a good way. Łukasz”
Seven years has flown by. “All of these ‘goodbye’s’ bring a lump to the throat. We need some ‘hello’s.”

Pitter patter Potter missed an opportunity there today . if he gave fab a last chance between the posts , he would have at least been more composed on the ball, in my opinion than flappeorala , though given the apathy of the teams approach to this game wouldn’t mean we would have won, but he would have given 100% of a swansong performance to give the the fans something to talk about rather than as usual dejected discussions they have after this below par dross they pay bloody good money to watch
Super player and a gentleman. Many memories of splendid performances and spectacular saves. A great West Ham asset.
