West Ham defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be on the cusp of a miraculous revival, which is sure to make Manchester United fans even more frustrated.
The Hammers right-back was a £15m signing from Old Trafford, and ever since, he has looked like West Ham might have snatched the bargain of the season.
With the Irons form improving and drama at Man Utd seemingly continuing, there has been some reflection in Lancashire that perhaps they shouldn’t have sold Wan-Bissaka after all.
However, it is now set to get even worse for the Red Devils with the potential of AWB receiving an England call-up.
Thomas Tuchel is set to announce his first England squad early this month ahead of the Three Lions’ World Cup qualifying matches against Albania on 21 March and Latvia on 24 March at Wembley.
Having started as England manager on 1 January 2025, he’s been busy contacting players and attending games to finalise his picks, and Obi Wan-Bissaka could be in.
The player himself has to decide between England and the Democratic Republic of Congo, but the West Ham defender could get selected.
Kyle Walker has failed to shine since leaving Man City, Kieran Trippier isn’t really a contender, and Reece James is seemingly too injury-prone.
This would leave Trent Alexander-Arnold as the one certainty, which gives AWB a huge chance of being selected. If he does, be prepared for a cacophony of wailing from Old Trafford as the reality of a very bad transfer decision truly sets in.
Oh well, Man Utd’s loss is most definitely West Ham’s gain, and I suspect Wan-Bissaka will get the call
Swings and roundabouts. We also got Ravel Morrison from the reda and look what happened there. What a waste of talent.
Ditto 42 he gets my vote for hammer of the year and at long last we have kept some clean sheets
Man U’s loss is definitely our gain especially at only 15m. Been an absolute revelation in the more advanced position under Potter and would love to see him given an England call up. Definitely gets my vote for Hammer of the Year.
My understanding is that AWB had one year of his contract remaining already extended and not keen to re-sign, he certainly doesn’t talk fondly of his time there. Under those circumstances they did well to get £15m for him while spending £17m on Masrauoui to replace him was best part of break even. I don’t think they did badly given their position.
