West Ham United‘s inclusion in Forbes’ list of the world’s most valuable football clubs is a testament to the club’s remarkable rise in recent years.

Ranked 16th globally with a valuation of $1.1 billion, the Hammers have outperformed many of their domestic and European rivals. This financial success is a direct reflection of the club’s on-field performance, increased global fanbase, and shrewd business acumen.

The London Stadium deal, while controversial at the time, has undoubtedly contributed to the club’s financial stability and overall valuation. The Hammers’ recent transfer activity, highlighted by the signings of Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, Guido Rodriguez, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, further demonstrates the club’s ambition to compete at the highest level.

As West Ham continue to grow and develop, our position among the world’s football top table looks increasingly secure.

However, the documented financial health makes the current cash grab on concession ticketing all the more unpalatable. One has to question if there really is any need to penny-pinch from the most needy fans when the club is truly one of the richest in the world?

So why the penny pinching? Could it be that rules around financial stability in the game aren’t based on subjective valuations by Forbes? Haven’t you watched the Newcastle situation? Bought by very deep pocketed owners and unable to spend it and are still realistically in the same tier as we are. There will be continued pressure to change the rules to allow more freedom but when and if they are relaxed it will be the deep pocketed teams, and not West Ham who are able to make the gap between them and us even bigger.
And then where’s the penny pinching. More than a few posts on here of people getting concerned that our current spending is the highway to a points deduction. Pushing back on clubs who ask for unreasonable amounts is a sign of a well run club. Five million extra may be three words on here but it’s not a small amount of money in the real world, even in the PL.

    • John Ayris says:

Yep, that about sums it up. We have a lot of players to bring in within PSR rules that do not allow open ended spending.

Would people prefer that we had a points deduction somewhere further along the line ?

Or perhaps they’d prefer that we brought in six instead of seven ?

We’re talking about millions so it’s barmy to even think in terms of penny pinching.

I agree Sullivan and Brady are wealthy individuals Sullivan a billionaire and Brady a multi-millionaire.Its disgusting that they should discriminate against west hams older loyal supporters and families with children. If they have any morals they should back track and admit that they’ve made a big mistake.West ham have earned many millions out of these older supporters especially. They should be rewarded for their loyalty not victimized, many are unable to climb up the steps to take their seats to watch matches, because they are so far away from the pitch. Sullivan come on show some class and reinstate concessions for seniors and families with children.

    • Danny M says:

I agree with more concessions, living in Forest Gate can I afford to take all us family to watch premier league or go up to Orient? I love WHUfC, but all this money in the premiership, it’s just pricing football fans out. I know it’s global branding and Asian broadcasting now, but I do miss proper old school football. EFL for me.

  • Brooking4Mayor says:

Oh dear god Simon, Do you have any kind of understanding relating to the topics you decide to write about. The more you post, the more you embarrass yourself with your leading headlines and lack of knowledge.
Being a patient, rational and normal person, let me say this – after all the hard work and feverish activity of the window, I’m quite happy with the decent and varied transfers we have sorted so far. It’s looking like a pretty good window, and with other possible transfers mentioned, it can only get better. But I do think it’s time that C&H took a long, hard look at itself and apologised for all the irrelevant ,pointless articles and the whinging, slating and slagging off you have done over the past 2 or 3 weeks. It also just goes to show that your “TOP” source (because you always quote them as your “TOP” source at the club) isn’t really of any consequence and that you have become a website that thrives more on clicks than actually writing decent articles in support of the club. No wonder our fan base is so polarised with all the gossip, rumour and sh*t stirring that your website posts. You even like to post your conspiracy theories saying things like Fullkrug was being chased to help lower the price of Duran. But what concerns me is even if that was the case, why would you report it? Do you really want everyone to know so it hurts our transfer dealings? It’s a shame that your standards are now so low that you will post anything just to get an article out there for a few clicks. I’m sure you think your justification is freedom of speech, or freedom of the press. Here’s some news for you – you aren’t members of the press, and a lot of the articles you are posting are more likely to actually hurt our club than help it. I think you should all be apologising for the spam and rubbish you have been writing as last week you were saying how bad things were and was Dithering Dave involved, and a few days later there’s a lot of back tracking and “best window ever” and “in Tim we trust.” You lot at C&H are so two faced and fickle. You guys like to jump on anything and everything if it means you can write some BS about it, and then a few days later your opinions take the exact opposite position. I definitely think you all have a lot to answer for, considering how divided and polarised our club and fan base are. I only come back here now and then to see if anything has changed, and clearly it hasn’t. Shame on you all, call yourself West Ham supporters? Judging by the rubbish you continue to post, I don’t!

    • Martin Treasure says:

Speaking of ” irrelevant, pointless articles and the whinging, slating and slagging off” – you re entitled to your opinion but – to post it twice in 12 hours?
Please, not a third time or I shall resort to the ‘delete’. We welcome debate which is why C and H is about the only site where comments are still allowed.
Take a look at the content from ALL contributors before you rush to criticise. And if it is really so painful for you, please, be happy and find another site for your West Ham news. We will send you on your way with our best wishes and a full, 100% refund. Oh, wait- you don’t pay anything –

      • Brooking4Mayor says:

Whatever Martin, report me to whoever u like. It will make my day. It seems your role at C&H is only to respond to criticism, instead of maybe addressing the issues mentioned and trying to do something about it. I understand your point of view, but many many people have criticised the site for the way it is coming across at the moment and the inaccurate copy and paste articles that certain people post on a regular basis. Maybe instead of firing back with really scary threats of being deleted (oh my gosh, what will I ever do if deleted) you could make everyone at C&H aware of how a lot of your readers feel and that maybe they should consider fact checking what they are putting out there before they rush to post it. My main reason for making the statement is to protect the club and the gullible from believing some of the baseless and inaccurate rubbish and speculation that’s posted for no apparent reason apart from click bait income. There is no one that holds you at C&H to account, which means you write and post whatever you want. So consider this me holding you all to account for the polarising content you post!

        • Martin Treasure says:

The ‘deletion’ referred to you repeatedly posting the same comment. The fact that your posts being critical are still ‘live’, I think illustrates the stance taken by me at any rate. Did I ever say anything about ‘reporting’ you? Nope.
          To whom, I wonder..
Constructive criticism is never a bad thing. I’m sure “everyone at C and H” reads the posts for themselves, since I don’t ‘censor’ them unless they are foul abusive or repetitive.
And, one final point, the opinions posted here by readers are far more ‘polarising’ than anything placed here by ‘us’. By all means carry on stating your opinion, that is why we leave the forum ‘live’. Just don’t keep copying and repeating the same posts, who wants to keep reading the same thing? Live, and let live, and I look forward to your critique on my piece of ‘opinion’ coming shortly.

    • Paul lewis says:

Also Simon says that we have signed Fullkrug, Rodrigues and Wam Bassaka, when was that?

  • Saul says:

Are we penny pinching? Look at how much we’ve spent. Hardly looks like penny pinching to me

    • B says:

It’s all relative to what else is being spent in the marketplace?
Looking at the overall net spend across a 5 year span, West Ham are about mid-table in the premiership.

IF the ‘penny-pinching’ relates to not paying £40mil. for Duran, then I’m all for it.

  • Chris W says:

TBF, I’m an over 66 with a concession and I’m still sitting in my Bobby Moore lower seat (well actually standing) that because I renewed my season ticket. Its only newbies that are getting chucked upstairs. Whether that’s fair or not is another matter.

    • B says:

Good for you Chris W. and thanks for clarity, seems like loyal (Renewing) fans remain on the current deal, only newbies won’t get the concession, right?

      • Dave says:

Loyal, so if you have loads of money you’re loyal.
How about those of us who been going since the 70’s when we were getting 12000 in the early 80’s, but are getting priced out?
        Are we not loyal?
        Burke.

        • Peter Smith says:

How are you getting priced out if you’re loyal? Loyal supporters would already have a season ticket and they are not impacted.

  • deanfergi says:

Moving seats counts as being a “newbie” and thus a full ticket charge. That is the reason for the consternation…

  • Steve says:

You guys wrote about this yourselves
    It’s called PSR
There’s clubs higher on the list than us that are struggling to buy players, you have to watch every penny and make it work
If we’d just paid what man U and villa were demanding we wouldn’t be able to get as many as we have
    Simone’s
    Simples

  • whistler says:

I will be glad when the season starts, perhaps then we can have something interesting to discuss.
