Tottenham’s latest bid – however much it is, and whatever the add-ons appear to be – is still well below West Ham’s revised downwards asking price of £65 million. According to Claret and Hugh today Daniel Levy has attached a ‘deadline’ of the 27th July which is hardly a ticking clock on negotiations in any case since, it is a full two and half weeks away.
It seems that there is one chairman who doesn’t really want to sell, and one who doesn’t really want to buy – so the deal stalls and hopefully the Hammers keep their star asset for another season or sell him to someone else for more money.
Sources such as tbrfootball.com suggest the deal is in an impasse:
“Tottenham Hotspur’s deal to sign Mohammed Kudus is stalling, and the two clubs are far apart in reaching an agreement.”
Less than three weeks ago Sean’s article ‘West Ham’s £90 Million cash injection : How it works’ set out how the Hammers’ board could put to £90 million into the club to fund transfers – instead of taking a £10 million hit on Kudus- and it seems to me, and many who comment on the Claret and Hugh forum that that time has arrived.
Easy when it is other people’s millions, I know. But West Ham have had their negotiating position in this window seriously compromised by announcing before the summer that the club had to ‘sell to buy‘ and not surprisingly, any interest in Irons players has consequently been at ‘bargain basement’ levels.
“Could add money ” and “will add money” are two different things though, and now the board will be in the uncomfortable position of having to sell Kudus for far less than the ‘revised’ asking price in a massive loss of face, or increase funding as they apparently said they would.
Not to do so – and therefore not back their manager in his first summer transfer market – would be an absolute recipe for disaster.
Ings, Antonio, Coufal, Cresswell, Zouma, Soler, Ferguson and Fabianski have left the club. Aguerd and Cornet will be leaving on loan or permanent deals as soon as they can be arranged. That’s ten departures. Only Daniel Cummings at £300,000 has arrived.
Surely time to act. Instead of desperately hawking around players of international calibre, do the responsible thing as board members and carry through with the promises made to support the manager and get this so-called world class club back off its knees.
Try not to get too het up with numbers, Martin. 10 out, 1 in (and extremely cheap). Follow the team for the football and not the financial bragging rights. David’s £90million of spare cash is his to do with as he pleases and not up for public scrutiny.
Jonathan Pearce and his mates could do with being told this advice about numbers, too.
wise words indeed
I hope we miss the deadline. Not now or never will be a Spurs player. We need a number 6 as a priority, yet we are chasing wingers! Vlohovic is cheap and available and his club want Bissouma. Surely thers z deal to be done there. Or Luiz
If this article is because you have taken notice of comments then well done Martin…..But if this chaos is all because of some botched Strategy by the chairman then this club is in trouble more than ever.
Sullivan has now cornered himself with the Kudus transfer and the statement that the board could inject £90million for transfers this summer if required. well he cannot sell To spuds on the cheap or be seen to panic by the so called Levy mind games and he is under just as much pressure form there fans as Sullivan is from us.
Sullivan wants to come out with some semblance of face saving then he should bark back at Levy £65million no stupid add ons pay up or shut up….Then let Kudus and his agent no he is going nowhere unless the price is met and get back to training…inject this £90million to show fans that you are not just talking but you are walking the walk.
Then and only then will the fans give you a little more time but to do otherwise well you will be in for a very Rocky road at home games.
sadly it looks as if the deal is done – check the latest post
Our amazing leader has caved and it looks like Levy got one over on him again, £55 million is a joke. We just get more and more a joke club run by a clown.
Was there an issue with what I wrote Martin, there was no profanity, just a reflection on someone well out of his depth who is past his due date at our club?
