West Ham have cooled their interest in Southampton’s soon-to-be free agent Kyle Walker-Peters, according to ExWHUEmployee.

The well connected Hammers insider has claimed that manager Graham Potter has decided to set his sights elsewhere in his search for wing-backs.

Walker-Peters—traditionally a right-sided defender—spent much of last season playing on the left flank for Southampton. His versatility, combined with his availability on a free transfer next week, made him an appealing option to replace the outgoing Emerson.

However, this latest development could suggest suggest a shift in emphasis-and dare I say confidence-from Potter, who may now prefer to target a specialist left-back instead.

West Ham have been heavily linked with “assist king” Aaron Martin Caricol, one of the most creative defenders in Serie A last season while playing for Genoa. Potter’s decision to turn down the chance to sign Walker-Peters could indicate growing confidence that Caricol is a viable option for the Hammers—particularly as Genoa are reportedly keen to take Maxwel Cornet on loan again next season.

I’ll always associate KWP with Tottenham. So for that reason, I’m out.

The farther we stay from KWP the better. I’m sure Potter can find better.
