As the list of candidates for the West Ham managerial job grows, it’s no surprise that a few less attractive options are being thrown into the mix alongside some decent suggestions.
I’ve already outlined why I’m unconvinced by Edin Terzic as one of the bookies’ candidates, and I won’t dignify the inclusion of Rafa Benitez with further comment.
The standout candidate for the West Ham job is probably Marco Silva, but I’d also be excited by the prospect of Andoni Iraola. Unfortunately, neither option is likely to be sanctioned by the Irons board.
However, the suggestion of Frank Lampard as a potential candidate simply has to be a bad joke.
First, Frank’s managerial record is abysmal. He did okay at Derby, narrowly missing out on promotion to the Premier League, but ultimately, he failed to meet his mandated targets.
Some might argue he did a reasonable job as Chelsea manager for a season during his first stint, steadying the ship during a transfer embargo, but his performance was far from spectacular. At Everton, Lampard’s tenure was disastrous, although he did reach the FA Cup quarter-finals, only to suffer a humiliating 4-0 loss to a poor Crystal Palace side. To put it bluntly, Lamps managerial record is poor to average.
But it’s really his strained relationship with West Ham fans that makes the idea of Lampard managing at the London Stadium unthinkable. For that reason, I seriously doubt the former Academy graduate—son of Frank Lampard Sr and nephew of Harry Redknapp—is on any legitimate shortlist to replace Julen Lopetegui.
Most likely, his name has been added to the discussion by poorly researched journalists who noted that he once played for West Ham but lack any real understanding of the club’s or Lampard’s history.
Brendon or Thomas please. Someone with a bit of spark, a track record in PL and can get the best out of players with some decent football.
I think sullivan toying with us. playing mind games with fan base looking in you can’t tell me he can’t see there is a problem or is he to big headed to admit when he is wrong lets see how far he willing to play this out .he may soon regret his actions and not dealing with problèm before its to late only time will tell unfortunately how much time is there

But ultimately it is going to be someone who is unemployed that we go for. And according to a recent C&H article, because Chelsea paid for Graham Potter and it didn’t work out this completely justifies NEVER paying compensation and always selecting managers from the dole queue.
If we paid the £5m release clause for Hoeness and he was aligned with Tim (after interview) Stuttgart can’t do anything to stop him joining us.
It’s the most important position at West Ham. Getting the best man available should be priority No.1

Sorry, wrong, Alan not decided by us! ‘Club policy’ maybe right or wrong but is well reported that ‘West Ham do not pay compensation’ for other club’s managers.
I didn’t suggest it was decided by C&H. How would the good people of this website determine club policy after all?
I said that an article was posted which based upon its headline and content, appears to defend the clubs approach of never paying compensation. This seems like an odd view for a fan to take. Surely we all want the best manager we can potentially land rather than the cheapest?

If it has to be someone who is unemployed and ideally have PL experience (as per the Sullivan essential criteria), then I would go for Potter.
But apparently Sullivan doesn’t rate him.
My only hope is that a decent manager gets sacked in the coming weeks…although getting sacked would indicate that perhaps that person isn’t doing particularly well at the moment. I would take Glasner if he became available, I don’t think the issues at Palace are necessarily on him. They lost a couple of important first team players in the summer.
Selling Olise and Anderson has proved a disaster for Palace! Two of their best players gone and not replaced with quality.
Can you imagine if Guelhi had joined Newcastle? I’m surprised they loaned out their young winger who looked decent. Can’t recall his name? 🤔 🤷♂️

My personal choice would be Hoeness, quality and also a good age. He’s under contract though so not a freebie almost certainly rules him out. Who we’re going to get will be a freebie and we will be able to pick fault whoever they are, of freebies I’d go with Terzic who is also a good age. It seems short sighted to me to scrimp on a manager when a manager makes more difference to a team than any individual player does.
I’ve been banging the drum for Hoeness for ages now.
Sully was prepared to pay a £6m loan fee for the disaster that was Kalvin Phillips, surely paying the £5m release clause for Hoeness is a no brainer!
Moyes flexed his power to get Phillips and Sully did the same with JLo. Tim is someone that as a club needs control not egotistical idiots making decisions that are detrimental to our progress.
I would have thought that £5M would be a bargain for Hoeness but the club policy is no buying managers out of their contracts. It makes no sense to me when quality of manager makes more difference than quality of any given player. I think we’re pissing up a wall hoping for Hoeness, it’s going to be an unattached freebie. Most important though is that we don’t drag on from game to game with Lopetegui getting further and further into the mire. The sooner the better even if it is a manager where we might have hoped for someone different but who can improve things.
Marco Silva for me too, Gonzo – but as you say, won’t happen.
Matt nailed it, while the buffoon Sullivan is at the helm we’ll get another two Bob clown who will be hopeless, then the same old Circus starts over again, unfortunately.
The realistic standout candidate is Hoeness.
He was on Tim’s shortlist with Amorin and Hürzeler. Any of these three would be an inspirational coach for our club.
Can’t wait for Coventry to appoint Lampard so they can copy Plymouth with Rooney, be in the spotlight and probably secure a commercial deal with Amazon or Netflix for a documentary.
Until Sully is removed from the interview process we are highly likely to get another coach no other club wants that is immediately available 🤦♂️
Why would you be shocked about Benitez? He ticks all the boxes for Sullivan.
Apparently some bloke called Roger Schmidt is the early favourite and its rumoured the club have held talks with him over the international break. Aged 57 and unemployed so would seem a likely candidate.
Fits the “Last of the Summer Wine” profile then. Scary to think Benitez would make a short list but you’re spot on as to why he might be on it! 🤦♂️
