Following the release of Lukas Fabianski, the Hammers go into the new season with only Alphonse Areola and Wes Foderingham as their two recognised senior keepers. As C and H wrote yesterday, that’s not a good place to be just four weeks from the opening Premier League fixture of 2025/6.

Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen is firmly on West Ham’s radar with reports that the Hammers are in talks with the Championship club.
Hermansen was notably absent from Leicester City’s preseason friendly against Zalaegerszegi on Saturday, fuelling speculation around his future.

Next signing? Mads Hermansen would be a popular choice

West Ham are believed to be pursuing a loan deal with an obligation to buy, with the player reportedly valued around £20m. However Leicester City are understood to prefer a permanent transfer upfront.

The Hammers’ new goalkeeper coach, Casper Ankergren, previously worked with Hermansen at Brondby and has recommended the 25 year old keeper to manager Graham Potter.

Former Denmark international Peter Kjaer also views Hermansen as a strong fit for West Ham, speaking to Tipsbladet in June, Kjaer said:

“It’s a nice place, located in London and a club that wants a bit more. They have Graham Potter, who wants to play the ball out, and he [Hermansen] is significantly better with his feet than Areola.”

Hopefully, West Ham’s recruitment team can conclude this deal quickly as Hermansen has many admirers within Premier League clubs.

Didn’t Hermansen have surgery recently? Might explain why he wasn’t in the Leicester squad………… perhaps?

  • Julian Woodhouse says:

If we don’t have two midfielders with pace and two strikers who know where the goal is come end of the window we are in serious trouble.

Have you forgotten Summerville? He fills one of those positions. Do you think West Ham will sign no more players before September? I’m sure that work is being done behind the scenes for the signing of several additional players, and more players will leave by then to bring relief to the wage bill.

I’m excited to see who West Ham will bring in next! With the preseason underway, it’s crucial to strengthen the squad. Any updates on potential signings would be great!

What insanity , just to get the average squad age down . Fabiansky , at least as good as Areola and free , thrown away forcing Westham to spend 20 million on a new GK when they don’t have the money . This idiocy will get Westham relegated .

    • Mr T R says:

No. West Ham will get relegated if they’re worse than Sunderland, Burnley, Leeds, Wolves and most likely Brentford over 38 games.

No need for a goalkeeper yet Areola and fodingham 1 &2 young and up comming as 3rd choice. Striker more of a priority

  • Ted fenton says:

Another crazy decision from Potter. Areola has been a great keeper for us and is still in his prime. No doubt we will pay £25m for a new keeper and give Areola away for £10m
If we had European football we might be able to keep them both happy but we haven’t and have no prospect of it.
Also still no effort to sign a striker

Happy to go dot it but we need midfielders with energy , pace and skill and a proper goal scorer . We are so weak in midfield
