West Ham’s problem is perfectly summed up in a comment from Claret and Hugh Facebook member Moondog this evening who declares: “We are nothing without Paqueta and Kudus”
Jarrod Bowen’s goal from the Brazilian’s wonderful assist followed by his departure soon afterwards spoke volumes about this squad and its capabilities.

And Mohammed’s absence at Afcon tells us even more with Moondog adding: “Boy oh boy, Mr Steidten really has got his work cut out this transfer window. That dire performance really highlighted how woefully short our squad depth is.”
As is well known, the new technical director brought in Kudus and Alvarez from Ajax, whilst Paqueta – sought by the manager – needed top agent and Claret and Hugh blogger Barry Silkman – to persuade him to join.
James Ward-Prowse – a Moyes pick – has been quality too but once Lucas and Mo go missing we get the Brighton and Bristol City type performances.
Divin Mubama proved to be absolutely no answer when he arrived early following Paqueta’s injury and it looks likely now that he will go out on loan if a deal can be agreed to keep him at the club.
Danny Ings has shown since his arrival he has little to offer and it’s a head scratcher as to how he can find a place in any squad which has players like the Brazilian and Ghana international involved.
So we continue to look towards Tim Stedten to bring in a couple more of real quality although it looks as though they will be needed at the back rather than the front.
