West Ham’s real competitors in the Premier League

|

Last week we compared the gulf between West Ham and the top six teams in terms of revenue explaining that Spurs earned £381m last season, Arsenal  £404m Liverpool £455m Manchester City £500m  and Manchester United £590m. They were all way ahead of the Hammers who earned £175m of revenue last season.

Our real competitors in the top flight now are the likes of Everton, Leicester City and Wolves all of whom are above us in the Premier League table at the moment and there could be a good reason for that!

When looking at net spend on transfers over the past three seasons each one of those clubs has outspent us.

Everton has spent £194m net,  Wolves £192m net and Leicester City £172m net compared to West Ham’s £109m net over the same period.

Looking at total revenue over the past three years with Everton and Leicester City compared against West Ham. Leicester City earned £521m with Everton on £482m with West Ham on £501m over the same period. Everton’s revenue last season was £189m which was £14m ahead of West Ham at £175m.

Everton also comes out on top when it comes to cash injections from owners, incredibly Farhad Moshiri has made shareholder loans from an Isle of Man company he controls worth £330m over the past three years at zero per cent interest with no repayment date or schedule.

Very interesting figures. Money talks is the moral of the story, however much the experts try to create ‘fairy stories’ around ‘little’ clubs. The PL is now selling out to the big boys with the latest division of the overseas tv rights. That & the new proposed format for the CL mean that unless something changes it is only a matter of time before the big clubs across Europe leave to set up their own super league. Potentially the new league of the ‘also rans’ in England could then be revitalised, with a far more competitive setup. Unfortunately, unless the authorities find a way to control spending this league will then go the same way as the current PL. Looking to the future I don’t find it an exciting prospect.

So we moved in to a bigger stadium with 55 odd thousand fans every week which Brady said would give us so much more money for top class players
But wolves spend more money ..not man u, not man city, not even spuds …but wolves 😂😂😂I think that speaks for itself really.. I mean have the owners deliverd what they said …?? Personally I don’t think so ..they have steadied the ship somewhat but that’s about it ….no money to talk of is being spent next season unless we sell ,, so I just don’t get it ..

Wolves are presumably able to spend more on players (transfer fees & wages) than we are because the owners are putting more in. They got both Dendoncker & Jiminez, at a time when both had been linked to us. I get that. But with a 30,000 stadium & presumably a smaller share of tv revenue than us, how are they able to keep within the financial rules? That I don’t get.

I wish we’d bought Jimenez and dendonker as I believe Moyes wanted to. In the end the owners decided to spend the money on pellegrini instead. I think we were also linked to deleufeu and Bernard who went to Everton. If we’d have got those four we would easily have finished 7th if not higher.
