West Ham’s Striker Curse Strikes Again!

The fabled ‘West Ham Striker Curse’ that has dogged the club for decades seems to be spreading and affecting Hammers targets now, rather than just disrupting those who actually sign a West Ham contract. After the Niclas Fullkrug debacle, it seems anything is possible. Fullkrug arrived in the summer for a huge fee only to go lame before even making a full debut: We are still waiting for that happy event.

From Sebastian Haller to Mido, Benni McCarthy, Gianluca Scamacca, Jordan Hugill and Zaza, the history of the club is littered with failed signings or crocked forwards who have never made it: Now the ‘curse’ goes even further and starts to affect those just rumoured to be linked with the club!

Only yesterday we wrote an article linking German Jonathan Burkhardt with West Ham – the club rumoured to be on the point of trying to bring him to London Stadium. Just 24 hours later and this afternoon he damaged his hamstring in the clash with Bayern Munich and was substituted clutching  an ice pack to his leg.

West Ham’s striker curse now hits those just rumoured to be linked to the club!

Too early to say how bad the injury – but it would be very ‘West Ham’ if our chosen target faces months off with a hamstring injury, forcing Steidten to look elsewhere in the winter window.

Of course, in all seriousness we wish Burkhardt well and fingers crossed it is just a minor tweak that won’t keep him out for too long,.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

We are not cursed just bad management

  • Elliott says:

Stop reaching. The “curse” is what you make it. This guy although linked is not at our club. As far as I’m concerned it’s a random player that got injured playing football. Stop playing into the narrative, injuries happen it’s part of the game to every club. Unfortunately we have been on the wrong end of poor management and injuries. It happens… our time in the sun will come mark my words!!!

  • Phil Baker says:

Both Moyes and Lopetegui prefer ‘ park the bus and pinch a goal ‘ small team tactics and clearly a bunch of players signed by Westham were/are possession based players . Westham’s season is already destroyed and so should not waste their money on any more broken old donkeys . Get the right players for the right tactics for the right coach in the summer . The money can’t be spent twice because of PSR .

Anyone notice Anthony Elanga doing the crossed hammers after coming off the bench and scoring for Forest this afternoon? Let the rumour mill commence.

  • Hmm says:

We need this man. He looks like a reincarnation of the great Bobby Moore.
