West Ham’s Striker Hunt Intensifies as Fullkrug Faces Summer Departure

Despite West Ham’s failed attempt to sign Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran, the club remains firmly in the hunt for a new attacker.

Claret and Hugh were informed by a top West Ham source back in December that signing a top-level centre-forward was a transfer priority. That priority remains unchanged.

While the Hammers are scouring the market with intensity, summer signing Niclas FĂźllkrug from Borussia Dortmund is slipping further into obscurity.

The ÂŁ27 million arrival from Germany sustained his second major injury of an already challenging West Ham career earlier this month. He is unlikely to return until April.

New Irons boss Graham Potter is reportedly a fan of FĂźllkrug, but even he acknowledges the folly of building a team around the injury-prone 31-year-old.

Had the German international remained fit in January, there was always a strong possibility he would return to Germany or join Juventus on loan. However, his hamstring injury has derailed any transfer plans this window. It now looks increasingly likely that he will leave the club in the summer, likely for a significant loss.

One can’t help but feel sorry for Füllkrug, who has shown glimpses of his quality during his limited time in a West Ham shirt. His involvement in the opening goal against Aston Villa in the FA Cup offered a tantalising glimpse of how well he could fit into Potter’s plans.

Unfortunately, a combination of fitness issues and homesickness means Füllkrug will inevitably join the long list of Hammers strikers who just haven’t worked out.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

Yet another article knocking Fullkrug. All feels a little bit like kicking a man while he’s down to me. Though I’m sure even Gonzo would love to see the big man come back from injury and start banging the goals in. I have to say I like the look of him from the little we’ve seen. Looks to have excellent link up play and knows where the goal is if he gets the service.

    Ditto John Ayris…..

What is it with players like Fullkrug and Scamacca being homesick? I would even work south of the river for their salaries 😊⚒️

Can’t see Niclas wanting to leave.

  • Mgbell says:

Fullkrug has not indicated a desire to leave, he can’t help being injured. This is all regurgitated clickbait from the same sites.

There have been flashes of quality from Fullkrug even though he’s been behind the eight ball with injuries. A case of probably could do a job if fit and up to speed.

He should not be here at all though, the bit extra should have been spent on Duran. A case of one bad decision leading directly to another one.

We’re likely to take a hit on him whenever he leaves, whereas we’d be in healthy profit already if we’d forked out the bit more for Duran. Bad decisions are runaway expensive.
