West Ham’s ten-goal striker earns an ‘excellent’ 8/10

It’s a tough existence. Being out on loan whilst your academy colleagues are making all of the headlines, grabbing starting places in West Ham’s senior team and impressing everyone. But from the sound of it, West Ham have another ‘future starlet’ ( for I know how much some of you love that expression!) in development at third-tier Huddersfield Town right now.

Callum Marshall, just twenty years old, on a season-long loan away from London with the Terriers, scored again at the weekend to take his season’s tally to ten goals.

Earning an impressive 8/10 from the hyper critical yorkshirepost.co.uk, Marshall was involved with all of the first three of Huddersfield’s five goals in their 5-1 defeat of Crawley Town.

Stuart Rayner, writing for the Yorkshire Post commented – “Callum Marshall – gifted his goal but he certainly deserved it for the excellent performance he put in 8″

Marshall will be on view on the International stage on Friday night, having earned another call-up to the full Northern Ireland senior squad to take on Switzerland in a friendly, following by a trip to Stockholm to play Sweden next Tuesday. All brilliant experience for the young Hammer who, by his own admission, is bursting to make it into West Ham’s Premier League team.

Whilst he might have to follow Freddie Potts’ trajectory with perhaps a loan move to the championship beckoning next season, Marshall is earning plaudits from his coach at Huddersfield and could be just a season away from the big time: Exciting for him and for us to watch the young striker try and make the hardest jump up in quality to – hopefully – earn his breakthrough. Boy do West Ham need him!

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
