Blue Co, the ownership group behind Chelsea and RC Strasbourg appear to have gained an edge over Premier League rivals West Ham, Brentford and Brighton in the race to sign C J Egan-Riley. The England U-21 defender has reportedly been offered a five year contract to join Strasbourg in Ligue 1.
Liam Rosenior is believed to be a key driving force behind the move, with the possibility of a future pathway to Chelsea depending on Egan- Riley’s development.
The two clubs have established a trading relationship – this season alone Chelsea sent Andrey Santos and Djordje Petrovic on loan to Strasbourg. Emanuel Emegha, another target for Graham Potter is likely to be playing first team football at Stamford Bridge next season, with the Blues in talks with the striker’s representatives.
Egan-Riley impressed with over 40 league appearances for Burnley in the Championship emerging as a standout performer under Scott Parker.
According to L’Equipe the defender is tempted by the project in France. With Rosenior’s team on course for a top six place, Strasbourg can potentially offer European football, something West Ham currently can’t provide – the move is seen as an attractive next step in his career.
As long as we don’t sign a 30 + year old injury prone striker…for silly money. Wait a minute.
“another” 30 + injury prone striker then
Green green grass is starting to wilt rapidly.
A number of names either wanted or associated with whu are spoken for and gobbled up.
Looks like.eleventh hour haggling is going to be players of no real interest definitely not Potters preferred choice.
Why are we still broadcasting players that are wanted or is it just media talk?
Looks like nobody wants to join us. This season has hardly been a good advert for the club. Hope we don’t end up scraping the bottom of the barrel and just signing mediocre players to fill the squad. Apart from money, of which we apparently have none, what are the incentives to join us? I hope Potter and Mcaulay have a master win place. Fingers crossed.
* In place
Just reinforces my fears that person who will be negotiating our deals is an old man. No energy, no speed, no dynamism. We are told there is a plan on place…….how about actioning it now!
