West Ham United‘s summer transfer window has been nothing short of spectacular, but it appears the club’s ambitions are far from satiated.
With the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the Hammers have bolstered their defensive options, while the additions of Max Kilman, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Niclas Fullkrug have significantly enhanced the team’s overall quality. However, the club’s pursuit of further reinforcements, particularly in midfield, indicates a clear desire to build a squad capable of challenging for European honours.
According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Hammers are far from done with their summer transfer business.
Sheth claims that the Hammers head coach is still very much in the market for another central midfielder.
That would definitely make sense with Flynn Downes having left the London Stadium, and Tomas Soucek being heavily linked with an exit.
If Julen Lopetegui manages to bring in someone else on his wish list, West Ham will have an incredibly well-rounded squad in pretty much every single department.
Cryptically, Lopetegui in his press conference today gave us all a bit of a ‘heads up’, declining ‘to speak about names who we might want to bring in’. Could that be a reference to Carlos Soler who even this evening is being linked with a loan to buy option at West Ham United? Apparently various rumours are suggesting that the player has reached an agreement – next for PSG who were reported to want just £17 million. We are off to try and track them down.
Such a signing would elevate West Ham to a new level and position them as serious contenders for a top-six finish.
The club’s willingness to invest heavily in the squad reflects the ambition of the owners and the desire to establish West Ham as a consistent force in the Premier League. Fans will be eagerly anticipating further developments as the transfer window reaches its climax.
We have the seventh largest revenue, we would not be punching far above our weight to finish sixth. We should be seriously aiming to as a regular ambition.
Great that West Ham are still pushing forward and trying to improve their chances for the future. Listening to Gonzo banging on about all those that dared to say “be careful what you wish for” (that one really upset him) I started to wonder if anyone said the same thing to Man. City fans prior to 2010. Why would anyone prefer to see teams like West Ham, Crystal Palace, Luton, Ipswich etc. just forever mark time in positions 7 through 20, while the top six enjoy exclusive access to the best of everything. Even more curious when you look at the names of those reported to have triggered Gonzo’s justifiable rant, Pearce, Shearer, Brazil, Allardyce, etc.
Smacks of Pelligrini all over again. Board go big, Fab, Diop, Hernandez etc all signed at great expense.
WH hit the big time and yet 12 months later we’re all disappointed.
Thats the risk all clubs take. Buying football players is always a gamble and rarely a dead cert.
Pellegrini was scattergun. This is forensic and targeted at positions that have been poor. To get rid of Soucek and Ward Prowse and bring in Soler would be the icing on the cake. Soler is seriously good if given a chance and could be a potential Hammer of the year!!!
