Government interference in football’s running and day-to-day management is a hot potato right now: The new Labour government has announced its plans to press on with its regulatory plans of top level English leagues.  The House of Lords, love them or loathe them, is scrutinising the government’s ‘football regulatory bill’ and of course, West Ham’s vice Chair Karren Brady speaks with far more experience in that house than most others.

Lady Brady called for the government to publish the letter it has received from UEFA in response to these ‘football regulator’ proposals, which she has calls ‘alarming’. Reported by cityam.com, Brady claims ‘The letter apparently (because it has not been made public) contains comments from UEFA which warns that domestic clubs and the England team could be banned from the Champions League and Euros over interference from the incoming football regulator.

Speaking in the House of Lords, Conservative peer Baroness Brady described the correspondence sent by European football’s governing body to the Secretary of State as “alarming” and called for it to be made public.”

The government refuses to make it public and one has to wonder why. UEFA are very focussed on state interference in the independence of sport and it seems the UK government is set on a collision course which could have ‘alarming’ consequences indeed for English clubs’ participation in European competitions.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. 'Football is Life' oh yes. Let it raise your spirit but never darken your mood. Life's too short not to enjoy the journey with our Claret and Blue heroes n' villains.

Well done Karren. Good that someone is trying to keep these interfering protection racketeers honest. If we all kept quiet they would take over all aspects of our lives. Not just depriving us of winter fuel allowances and eyeing up our inheritances.

Anybody who listens to Karen Brady on football, is an idiot who will learn absolutely nothing about football,, because all Brady cares about is Brady.

    • Matt says:

Thom, considering the comment above yours, I’d have to agree 100%. Same guy who wanted Frank Lampard as our manager 🤣🤣🤣

As seen before , when top tier English teams and the league become too powerful , European teams find a way to ban English clubs and it’s all about money . It happened after the Heisel stadium disaster when Liverpool fans pushed over a decrepit wall crushing Juventus fans . Instead of just barring Liverpool for a season or two the Europeans banned all English clubs for six seasons thereby smashing the finances of the top teams . Once again the Euro’s are jealous of the money and prestige that the English Premier League has and want it for themselves . Perhaps England should dump Europe completely and allow Russia to roll through all of it and see how those worms like that .

  • Charlie says:

Anything Karen Brady opposes is probably a good thing for fans. Lets see what the regulator comes up with.

  • Legin says:

They will do whatever they can to avoid scrutiny. Supporters can’t continue to moan about the quality of the ownership and then moan about the solution. UEFA will be worried that this moves brings an appropriate level of scrutiny a step closer to them.

  • Stan Leman says:

Judging by this government’s performance up to now, I can only think it will redistribute the monies into its own pet projects with no benefit to smaller clubs or supporters.

  • Matt says:

Surely having opposed Man City’s recent legal case, Brady would welcome proposals to not grant operating licenses to state owned clubs like City & Newcastle?

Maybe just another self interest rant by Brady, who wants to 🍒 pick what best suits Sullivan and herself when they eventually decide to sell up. 🤔

    • Steve1 says:

“Self interest” hits the nail right on the head. ‘Lady’ Brady is just worried that any future regulator would step in and stop her and her colleagues screwing supporters with strategies such as the removal of concession pricing.

Anything that puts a brake on the money grabbing antics of the Premier League is fine with me.

      • Matt says:

        Totally agree Steve!

Fans protesting about being ripped off for loyalty, Super Leagues, hopefully TV companies arranging fixtures like Newcastle away when no trains home are all reasons fans welcome the Football Regulator.

Fans are the soul of football but never get a voice when money is involved! 😡

      • Bennyboy baker says:

Brady is just Sullivans puppet all they are worried about is the money side of things neither of them give a toss about the fans it’s all about profit which to a point is ok but not at the expense of ripping off the fans it’s about time there was some accountability by club owners across the board as for Sullivan and the other owners etc if money wasn’t most important thing to them we would have a top manager instead of the half wit we have now
