What Nuno Chose Not To Say to West Ham Host Spoke Volumes

Gonzo and Martin have already covered Nuno’s interview yesterday, yet I thought I’d share my initial thoughts.

Listening to Chris Scull sit down with Nuno Espírito Santo felt like peeking behind the curtain of a club that has been wobbling for some time.

I’m sure there were questions that Chris wanted to ask, yet couldn’t. However, Nuno came across calm, almost too calm for a man managing a team that had been leaking goals and confidence for much of last season. But there was a sincerity in the way he spoke about responsibility.

Nuno made it clear there was never any doubt about staying. Despite the noise around his future, he said both he and the board were aligned. Whether I believe that is another thing entirely.

West Ham Unity Message Will Be Tested

Yet what stood out most was his insistence on unity.

Nuno said: “We owe the fans, we owe their support.”

As a fan, you want to believe him. You want to buy into the idea that clarity, communication and hard graft can turn this around.

But the concerns linger.

He didn’t fully address the whispers about confusing training sessions, players being unsure of their roles, or the lack of tactical cohesion. He also dodged the question over which players would be there at the beginning of the new season.

You could sense the cracks, even if he didn’t name them.

Promotion Remains The Only Objective

Still, for the first time in weeks, it felt like someone at the club was actually fronting up.

By the end of the interview, one message rang louder than any other: West Ham have one mission — get back to the Premier League.

And Nuno believes the foundations are already there.

As Chris said at the end to our Portuguese head coach: “Your success is our success!”
