What Punishment for Paqueta?

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta‘s future hangs in the balance after being charged by the FA with betting breaches. The nature of the accusations could lead to a far harsher punishment than those handed down in similar recent cases.

Unlike strikers Ivan Toney and Sandro Tonali, who were caught placing bets on matches (Tonali on his own team to win), Paqueta faces a different set of charges. He is accused of deliberately getting booked in four separate Premier League games, potentially manipulating the game for betting purposes. The FA considers this a more serious offense.

While Paqueta maintains his innocence, the potential consequences are significant. The Times suggests a ban ranging from six months to a lifetime. The Guardian goes further, hinting at West Ham’s fear of a lifetime ban, reflecting the severity of the alleged actions.

For comparison, Toney received an eight-month ban and a £50,000 fine for his 232 betting breaches. Tonali’s initial ten-month ban stemmed from incidents during his time in Italy, with an additional two months added for further breaches upon arriving in England.

It’s important to remember that Paqueta has the right to a fair trial. He has until June 3rd to respond to the charges. The final punishment will hinge on the evidence presented and the FA’s ultimate decision.

Regardless of the outcome, this situation casts a dark cloud over the Irons. The potential loss of a key player for a significant period, or even permanently, would be a major blow to the club’s ambitions.

Pacqueta is genuinely a terrible tackler . As was seen out in Germany against Leverkusen. He’s in the gazza league for it . If you back him to pick up a booking every 3 games it’s buying money. He plays on the edge like dicks Di canio Alvarez and John moncur. Take that away and he isn’t the same player.

The FA are now obliged to convict Paqueta whether he’s guilty or not because they risk being sued out of existence by both Paqueta and Westham , If Paqueta is banned he and Westham could get an injunction granted to prevent any Premier League fixtures from being played as Paqueta would be denied the right to work and Westham denied the use of a great player and/or 85 million in transfer revenue . If there are no texts , emails , recorded conversations or witnesses the decision is based on weak circumstantial evidence that a good legal team can destroy .
