Whatever’s happened to this Hammer?

With an abundance of centre backs at West Ham, to such an extent that both Reece Burke and Reece Oxford have been loaned to Bolton and Borussia Mochengladbach, the Hammers also have an international defender has another yet to play for the club in the Premier League.

Candaian internationa Doneil Henry is very much the forgotten man who joined West Ham in 2015 after a successful trial having cpme highly recommended by Ryan Nelson who managed the youngster during his time at Toronto.

Subsequently loaned out to Blackburn he played twice on loan suffering injuries during both spells. He was then loaned out last season to Danish club AC Horsens, before fate repeated itself nine months ago when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament.

Manager Bo Henrkisen at the time expressed his disappointment “We are very sorry to lose Doneil Henry, he has huge potential and insane skills”

Since his return to West Ham little had been heard about the 24 year old with even the  physio room website, which updates on club injuries, having  no log of the player!

Then earlier this month Henry re-emerged – coming on as a second half substitute versus Billericay Town in a preseason game  the Hammers lost 3-1.

At least he has a squad – number 24, according to transfermarket.co.uk. which reveals his contract expires on 30th June 2018.

Henryappeared  70 times for Toronto so it would be interesting to see how he develops. Yet amazingly he has been injured more frequently than Andy Carroll during his spell at West Ham.

With Rice, Oxford and Burke now ahead of him  it is likely the club will release the player and he can start afresh either in the Championship or a return to the MLS.
