WHISA welcomes end to Irons partnership

West Ham United Independent Supporters Association is thankful that the Irons has ended its partnership with blockchain platform Socios.

And WHISA chair Sue Watson, speaking in an interview with KUMB said she and her organisation were delighted with the news.

She said: “We are very pleased that the partnership between West Ham and Socios has ended.  We hope that another fan exploitation scheme [of this nature] is never introduced at our club.

She added: “What really concerned us were the implications that fans would have to pay to have a say. We were among a group of fan organisations that said ‘no, that is not ok’.”

KUMB added: ‘Working under the collective banner of #bemorethanafan, some of West Ham’s most well-known websites, organisations and representatives collaborated to raise awareness against the partnership between West Ham United and Socios.

And the widespread condemnation and long-running objection to it finally bore fruit today when the partnership was shelved.

Ms Watson added: “A big group came together under that banner and that sent a united, strong message [to the club],” she added. “It’s a victory for the fans – and that’s what fan voice and supporter voice is about.

“When things don’t feel right to fans we have the right to question, we have the right to say we don’t agree. I think it was a very strong message that was sent.”
