With Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Antonín Kinský set to join West Ham on loan, early suggestions indicate that defender Igor Julio could be sent back to Brighton & Hove Albion. The move would free up one of the club’s limited domestic loan slots and allow them to pursue a defensive reinforcement.

However, there is an issue, as Julio has played one game for Brighton this season and cannot sign for another club with the same league dates.

Loan Rules Create a Complication

The Premier League rules for loans are quite strict in that a club may not register more than two domestic loan players at the same time. Across a full season, a club may register a maximum of four domestic loans in total, while no more than one loan can come from the same club at any time.

Also, a Premier League club cannot loan a player to another Premier League club if they signed that player in the same transfer window, and a club may loan no more than one goalkeeper to another Premier League club at a time.

One of the options available to Brighton, if they accept the recall, is to loan Julio to a club in Brazil, where there is rumoured interest in the 27-year-old.

With money tight, West Ham are assessing centre-back options. Nuno has identified several Premier League defender targets, and the board are leaning toward supporting a loan deal or potentially one that includes an option to buy.

However, should Lucas Paquetá depart to Flamengo, there will be money available, and permanent deals could be explored.

The coming days will determine whether they can execute the reshuffle required to bring in the defensive cover Nuno is pushing for.
