Will Moyes rotate? Wolves vs West Ham
Whilst there is little doubt that West Ham’s players put in a heroic effort against Tottenham in the Premier League, they looked dead on their feet.
While Ange Postecoglou was busy making multiple substitutions, David Moyes remained steadfast and resolute. The Hammers’ gaffer refused to make any changes, instead relying on his starting eleven to finish the job.
It nearly worked too; Michail Antonio had a good chance to score the winner, and West Ham had a flurry of attacks towards the end of the game. But something will have to give; Moyes surely can’t expect the same players to play twice per week with practically no rest.
Edson Alvarez is expected to return against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend following a two-game suspension for accumulated naughtiness. However, the Hammers’ attacking quartet of Paqueta, Antonio, Kudus, and Bowen will need a rest at some point.
It will be interesting to see how Moyes manages this situation. If the Hammers are to maintain a push for Europe, then they probably need to be beating teams like Wolves. Of course, the decision to see out the rest of the season with a small squad could backfire if changes aren’t made. Moyes will be fully aware that any changes aside from Alvarez will weaken the team. It will be interesting to see what he does.
