Wilshere for Lanzini? No, no, no

There’s a big rumour doing the rounds on various websites that Manu Lanzini may face the axe with Jack Wilshere taking his place in tomorrow’s starting X1.

It’s based largely on the former Gunner taking over from him during the last half an hour against Palace as the team failed to create the chances required to break Roy Hodgson’s men down – and that after all is the playmaker’s job!

There’s also the knowledge that Pellegrini isn’t scared to drop players he doesn’t see as performing to the required standards although whether that’s true in this case will only be known at 11.30 tomorrow when the teams are announced.

His decisions in the past to axe the likes of Fabian Balbuena, Aaron Cresswell, Arthur Masuaku, Wilshere himself and even captain Mark Noble bear witness to his “no favourites” mentality,

However, with no Fabian Delph available to the Toffees and some serious midfield issues to solve, a decision to drop Manu would surely play straight into Everton’s hands.

This will not be a deep lying Everton looking to stifle the Hammers but a team on the move looking to score goals and escape the relegation position.

And that alone should ensure that the creator in chief starts and finds the space required to parade his often awesome skills.

If he is at his best there’s not a team in the country who can stop him.

  1. I rate Lanzinin very highly like all Hammers fans but he was very poor against Palace and I thought we looked more creative when Jack came on so I’m all for giving him a start against Everton.

  2. A mindless rumor if ever there was one IMHO

  3. Hugh, I would give no credence to these rumours, any West Ham would laugh at such rubbish. The only reason Lanzini will not start is if he is carrying a knock and at that it wont be Wilshere who will replace him. Wilshere offers us nothing, how many times do we need to see him to realise this. I could not believe how we even brought him on against Palace when we were trying to win the game. Hard to understand really.

  4. Why pick Lanzini out, against Palace he was no worse than any of the others.Wilshere will probably come in if Declan isn’t fit .The performance v Palace was very similar to the Man U game, its just we got the breaks in that one. This possession based game at home shows we only had 8 attempts on goal against Utd & 9 V. palace. If you have aspirations of being in the top 6,you need at least double that.I often bet on the correct score, hope im wrong ,but could be 0-2 tomorrow .

  5. Yes Lanzini wasn’t great against CP but nobody covered themselves in glory during that match either.
If Lanzini were to be dropped then Fornals – who needs game time- is the obvious choice as a number 10 to start ahead of Wilshere.

  6. If he is at his best there’s not a team in the country who can stop him??

I really think you need a reality check. Yes, Manu is decent on his day but this is hyperbole beyond belief.
