Window discussed and verdict delivered

|

Fonte4It’s the same every time of course …it’s either a rubbish transfer window or it’s brilliant.

Football is so tribal even within the same club that many feel the need to express their disgust or joy – very rarely is there anything in between as the alternatives give everyone the chance to justify their prejudices.

In truth, the window just past was fine…one great defender and a midfield option who is a thoroughly proven Premier Leaguer who will bring much to the table.

Many have made the point about needing a striker and were disappointed that Scott Hogan was allowed to leave for Villa. His was the only name mentioned as a front man and Slav didn’t want him.

Had we still been in a major slump and unable to find the net it might have been worth a punt but with 28 points on the board, Carroll currently fit, Ashley Fletcher available and Sakho on the way back, the manager decided otherwise.

The striker talk started in very bleak times and things changed and as a result presumably the manager’s attitude changed with it – as perhaps did many of ours.

Time will tell if Slav was right or wrong but personally the prospect of spending £14 million in January on a player with no PL experience was always a no no in my book.

Given that and that there was no other striker available I personally have no problem with Slav’s decision given that he believes he may have found the key to keeping Carroll fit on the training pitch.

I can make a better case for the club not signing a right back although given the Fonte reputation – and how young players, notably Nathanial Clyne have improved their game by playing alongside him – I see our boy becoming a better and better player.

It’s a given that January is a very poor time to buy and that only struggling clubs get seriously involvedand believe the two signing we made were very good business.

Agree the window was ok, two solid players bought. Overall it was an undramatic window for all sides. I am also happy we loaned out Martinez, Browne and Oxford along with Burke they look to have a fighting chance of stepping up in the next year or two. On the u23 front we have a lot of promising players, Samuelson has all the ability but he needs to learn when to release the ball, he also needs to do some training in the gym, likewise Quina needs to bulk up a bit but these players are still young with time on their side, onwards and upwards COYI !!!

I think you will find it was a POOR window. How do i know this?!?!? Because The Oracle on the other site has said it about two hundred times to date.If he says it was a POOR window who is any other fan to argue HaHa

Just been reading Charlie Nicholas on our dealings on Sky
    West Ham: B

Ins: Jose Fonte (Southampton, £8m), Nathan Holland (Everton, undisclosed), Robert Snodgrass (Hull, £10.2m)

Outs: Dimitri Payet (Marseille, £25m) Martin Samuelsen (Peterborough, loan), Lewis Page (Charlton, undisclosed), Jaanai Gordon (Newport, loan), Josh Cullen (Bradford, loan), Alex Pike (Cheltenham, loan), Marcus Browne (Wigan,
    loan), Toni Martinez (Oxford, loan)

Charlie says: West Ham and Slaven Bilic have done very good business, in my book. I like Fonte – he’s a leader, as I’ve said – and Snodgrass is the creative spark. It was a absolute no-brainer getting Payet away from the club when he didn’t want to play for them. They’ve got good money for him too.

Think your so called oracle must be a professional mourner. But you’ve got to love his bullishness, he batters the same point over and over again until everyone agrees just to shut him up.

For me, the best thing about this window is that we still have Feghouli. I’m also pleased that the club hasn’t given up on Callieri, who is starting to look promising.

There’s still plenty to come from Ayew when he gets back – as yet he hasn’t lived up to his record signing billing.

If Sakho. too can rediscover his form, we will have some decent choices up front.

I am, though, just a bit concerned that neither of these are availble in the short term, bearing in mind Carroll’s injury record.

Be good if we could put one over on City tonight.

Great window. Hogan unproven and allegedly got a dodgy knee, I’d rather save the dosh for a ‘top class’ striker in the summer. But whether that actually happens or not is another thing…Hopefully once the OS becomes more of a fortress/we start to like it there, it’ll be more appealing to big players
