Wonderkid Guilherme Stuck in Limbo as West Ham Stumble on Next Move

West Ham winger Luis Guilherme has endured a frustrating start to his Hammers career.

The Brazilian wonderkid was signed from Palmeiras as one of the most promising young talents in South America. It feels like an eternity ago that Tim Steidten proudly posed alongside the Hammers’ first signing in what seemed like an incredibly successful transfer window.

However, the reality hasn’t matched the hype—though that’s no fault of Guilherme’s. The 18-year-old has barely been given a sniff of first-team action.

Nothing highlights the disconnect between head coach Julen Lopetegui and West Ham’s director of football quite like the signing of Guilherme. The transfer appears to have been completed with little thought about the player’s progression and integration into the club.

Guilherme has featured for West Ham’s under-21 team, scoring a goal and looking generally impressive. But that’s been the extent of his involvement. The highly regarded youngster seems caught in no man’s land: not quite good enough for the first team, but too good for the academy.

A short-term loan deal to acclimatise to the rigours of English football seems an obvious solution. Unfortunately, there’s little sign that West Ham are planning to take any meaningful action. Guilherme remains in a state of limbo.

The club now faces a pressing decision about Guilherme’s present and future. Without proper action, they risk having a rapidly depreciating asset on their hands.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

I started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

I give West Ham opinions and interviews on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus. Former video and content creator for West Ham United back in the days of Upton Park. I was lucky enough to feature in the documentary broadcast on that final wonderful game at the Boleyn when Winston Reid broke Manchester United hearts.

I frequently feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

More West Ham moaning is done on a daily basis here 👇👇

I bet his well happy he signed for us, not! 3 who want out, one mad car driver, finished and relegation in sight. Makes good reading. Miracle JL has not been blamed for Antonio’s car smash!!!!!!!!!!

  • James says:

Thought he was bought for the future, not this season!!!! Don’t understand what you are criticising about. He is not ready for the 1st team yet, plus time needed to acclimatise to being away for home. Need to have him settled in before considering loaning him out.

SHe needs to be given a run out in the team and if he is as poor as JLo seems to think then an inquest can start. I remember when Bilic bought Antonio, all the forest fans were gutted and had been raving about how good he was. There was a joke at the club at the time that nobody even know what Antonio looked like until we h.ad one of our usual injury melt downs and he finally got his chance and didn’t look back. It could be the same here but we won’t know unless he is given a chance

I was not expecting to see Guilherme play regularly, he’s 18, he was bought as a development prospect not as a first team regular. To train with the first team squad, to have the odd cameo appearance, that’s all I was expecting to see.

Weak chairman and poor manager NO MORE NO LESS

  • Paul Basnett says:

Lopetegui seems a very confused and confusing coach and it’s very difficult to understand what he is trying to achieve on the pitch . He seems disconnected from the players and the fans and shows no interest in academy players. The haphazard scattergun tactics and team selections don’t help his credibility. His one defence I imagine is the players aren’t his choices and he’s trying to make the best of Steidens buys. Some of which do seem bad choices. But it’s no excuse for the total confusion on the pitch.

the decision making from the dwarf at the top to flopagetti has been criminal.
This lot couldn’t run a bath let alone a PL club. We are a shambles at the moment, just a bloody joke.

How many times do we read on C and H that the youngsters should be given a chance , he is a talented youngster, on the bench why can’t j,lo use him . A lot of our quality academy players would be better options than our underachieving senior players . I suppose Fullkrug won’t get a game so we can protect him from injury in the hope we can sell him but who,s go to bid for an injury prone player who doesn’t play. We need to dig in now as a club to climb away from the bottom and I think the likes of Pac-Man should remain benched as he makes to many mistakes which leads to conceding goals ,we don’t want ballet dancers we need grafters

  • Darkhorse says:

He needs to be given a chance to show his worth,
After all Ings offers very little yet still gets match time

  • B says:

If Kudus goes Guilherme could get his opportunity. He was bought as a long term prospect for the future. Really he should have been put back out on loan as soon as we bought him.

  • Simeon says:

I don’t understand why they don’t just loan him out to a championship side. If he were to help a team get promoted or help a team stave off relegation it would be great for his development. Look at George Earthy for example he came on for Bristol City the other day and made some great contributions. Guilherme needs this experience.

    Our new Divin Mubama?
    Sad and bad to see.

  • Phil Baker says:

The Guillherme situation is yet another reason to sack Lopetegui now . He mishandles almost every player and situation almost as if he’s some sort of demon purposely trying to wreck Westham in every way .
