World Cup Form Comes At The Right Time
The fact that West Ham defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka managed to go four World Cup matches without being dribbled past once will come as little surprise to many Hammers supporters.
After all, during his first season at the club, the former Manchester United and Crystal Palace full-back won Hammer of the Year and reminded everyone why he once earned a £50 million move to Old Trafford.
Unfortunately for both West Ham and the player himself, his form took a nosedive last season, and the suggested £15 million valuation attached to a proposed move to Everton felt far more reflective of that version of Obi-Wan.
A Timely Reminder Of His Quality
Wan-Bissaka will naturally be disappointed that DR Congo’s World Cup journey ended at the hands of England and, more pertinently, Harry Kane.
However, he can return with his head held high after rediscovering some of the form that made him one of West Ham’s best performers just twelve months earlier.
That could prove significant for both player and club.
Like Jean-Clair Todibo, Wan-Bissaka is not currently viewed as one of the key players West Ham are determined to keep.
If we’re honest, towards the end of the relegation season, Kyle Walker-Peters emerged as the stronger option at right-back.
Wan-Bissaka therefore remains one of the players who could leave the London Stadium this summer.
From West Ham’s perspective, a strong World Cup can only help. If nothing else, it serves as a timely reminder of the player’s quality and may just help increase his transfer value should the right offer arrive.
Kwp wasn’t that great in the last few games though was he, when we really needed him to be.
Time for Wan-Bissaka to go and be a one season wonder elsewhere
