Fighting for their Premier League lives with the showdown with Arsenal looming large, West Ham’s senior squad have enjoyed an almost injury free season at London Stadium. As reported earlier the club stand second in the ‘games missed through injury‘ table which is a credit to the conditioning and fitness team.
After the perils of looking after the oldest squad in the Premier League last year, this season must have come a something of a pleasant surprise for the Rush Green team.
‘El Machin’ recovers from surgery in time for Mexican World Cup campaign
Shortly to be returning from a half season long-loan at Fenerbahce, however, it’s been a very different story for Edson Alvarez. The Mexico skipper has had a torrid season with frequent and recurrent ankle problems that forced him to undergo surgery in March with fears he’d miss the Summer World Cup.

Alvarez’ rapid recovery from ankle surgery means he’ll be heading back to East London fully fit and ready for Mexico’s World Cup.
On a positive note for the club, Alvarez will be returning to West Ham at the end of the season full fit: As reported by whufc.com:
“In Turkey, Edson Álvarez made his first appearance after a three-month absence as Fenerbahçe recorded their sixth win in seven games to keep the title race alive heading into the final two matches.”
Might not be huge news for West Ham fans right now who’re focussed on the club’s showdown with Arsenal on Sunday.
But for Alvarez, and his World Cup ambition it is great news: Plus, of the four loanees dispatched by Nuno, Alvarez is arguably the more sellable of Ward-Prowse, Fullkrug and Cornet.
A decent World Cup for ‘El Machin’ would certainly see suitors come to take him off the club’s hands at a modest fee – nowhere near the £18.5 million inserted into his Fenerbahce loan option, but even half that would be a big chunk towards West Ham’s enormous debt.
