World Cup Watch: Mario,Patricio and Carvalho

Portugal play Spain in the World Cup Group B tonight at 7 pm on BBC 1

Joao Mario is still technically a West Ham player as we hold his registration until the end of June under the terms of his season-long loan. The Inter Milan player played 14 games in all competitions for the Hammers scoring two goals. The Italian club paid £35m for their midfielder but will take £25m if West Ham decides to come back for him on a permanent basis. Mario is on the bench tonight but might make a late appearance.

Another Portugal player worth watching tonight is William Carvalho who has been a long-term transfer target for the Hammers, he has terminated his contract with Sporting Lisbon and Manuel Pellegrini may be giving the free agent a close look tonight.  Carvalho is also tipped for a start this evening.

Keeper Rui Patricio is another Sporting Lisbon player who has ripped up his contract and is available on a free transfer. If Pellegrini is looking for an another keeper in addition Fabianski than Patricio may be an option.

Former Hammer Jose Fonte lines up in defence tonight for Portugal.

  1. Lets have all three, as it stands it looks like we have lost Lanzini for the season and Mario probably and we are getting Mawson, the Felipe Anderson one won’t happen it is another Carvalho from last season.

  2. Keeper looked OK Mario never got into the game and Carvalho looked over weight, and lumbered around like a cart horse. Was average on the ball but way off the pace. I can’t see him as a asset on that performance I would sooner keep Nobes far another season.

  3. I wasn’t overly impressed with Carvalho didn’t look like the player I was expecting very static and didn’t look comfortable with the ball too many short sideward passes also,Mario came on and didn’t make any impact on the short time he had,I thought the fella who took his place wasn’t effective at all and Mario should have started Patricio looked ok no chance with two of the goals and commander his box.COYI

  4. Certainly has a whiff of Groundgog Day about it at the moment.

  5. Carvalho looked like a fat Noble
