Wrong to blame David Moyes

It would be wrong to blame David Moyes for the Lucas Paqueta injury against Bristol City,

Numerous forum comments claim that the manager should not have played him in the game given our League and European involvement but unlike many others, the Hammers manager refused to devalue the FA Cup competition. Good for him!

Wrong to blame David Moyes

He – like all bosses – is in a no win situation on such occasions and there is no question that the medical staff would have advised him the Brazilian was fit and there were no dangers.

Moyes had clearly decided the domestic Cup competition is one that he intends to take seriously given we have no further European involvement until March. It’s of course arguable before the game whether Paqueta was required but that was soon settled when he set up Jarrod Bowen‘s opening goal.

Wrong to blame David Moyes

The player himself had declared on his Instagram that he would only be out for one game after suffering the injury and the club’s medical staff clearly believed he was fit for the game so if any fingers are to be pointed it is towards them.

I was surprised Moyes picked what appeared to be such a strong side and don’t believe that would have been the case had Europe involvement been closer.

I find it tricky attaching any blame to the manager for this decision!
