Yarmo confirms exit plan

Andriy Yarmolenko has confirmed that he is all but certain to leave West Ham this summer.

The Ukraine international has been a heroic figure this season, playing as war has ravaged his home country.

He has scored some remarkably important goals for the club this term but remains a somewhat peripheral figure in David Moyes’ squad.

He has made a total of seven starts this season but none of those have come in the Premier League and he has now revealed that he is almost definitely leaving the club when the transfer window reopens.

Per the London Evening Standard, the 32-year-old was speaking in a long and wide-ranging YouTube interview and made it clear that he is likely to move to a European club.

His contract is expiring in the summer but the Irons do have the option to extend it by a further year, although he says there have been no talks over that eventuality.

He said: “I think that 95 per cent, I will leave.

“West Ham have the option of an extension [on my contract] for another year. But no one contacted me about this. I look forward to their decision in the next week or two.

“If not, my agent will deal with the issue of my future employment. We’ll see what the options are.

“Teams from the Turkish Championship and teams, let’s say, from warm countries [are interested].

“Saudi Arabia. There are options from Spain and Italy too, but I still think I have not decided. It doesn’t really matter where I end up.

“Before the war, I thought about returning to Dynamo Kiev. Now, no one knows what will happen to the country in general. If there is no championship, then where can I return to?

“If I have to choose between money and a club that gave me everything, I would choose the club.”

It remains to be seen how involved Yarmo will be during the run-in.
