Yarmo’s date with destiny

Andriy Yarmolenko may well be leaving West Ham once his contract expires at the end of this month but he is facing a date with destiny on Sunday evening.

Ukraine face Wales at 5pm UK time in a World Cup qualifying play-off. The winner of the game will reach the tournament in Qatar, which kicks off in November of this year.

Yarmo’s side needed to beat Scotland to get this far and did so, winning 3-1 earlier this week in an emotional, highly-charged encounter.

The Hammer scored a superb lob to open the scoring, before Roman Yaremchuk and Artem Dovbyk added a second and third.

The winner of Sunday’s clash, which could be the final ever game that Gareth Bale plays for Wales, will qualify for Group B at the World Cup, meaning they will face England in Qatar. The other opponents in the group are the USA and Iran.

Yarmo has been a sensational servant for his country, winning 107 caps in total and scoring 45 goals.

Everyone at ClaretandHugh wishes Yarmolenko all the very best this evening.
