West Ham being linked with Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood always had an air of inevitability about it.
With Nuno Espirito Santo taking over at the London Stadium and the Hammers looking lightweight in the striking department, Wood was always going to be a name that cropped up.
Nuno’s Familiar Target
According to TBR Football, Nuno and West Ham are keeping tabs on the situation at Forest, where Wood has recently found himself out of the starting line-up.
Espirito Santo’s former club are struggling under new manager Ange Postecoglou and, during last night’s loss to FC Midtjylland, Forest fans were even heard singing Nuno’s name.
The 33-year-old Kiwi striker came off the bench to score a stoppage-time penalty, but if West Ham think signing him will be straightforward, we may need to think again.
Forest Won’t Sell
When Claret & Hugh asked our top transfer source whether West Ham might sign Wood in January, we received a blunt reply:
“Forest will never sell Wood in January.”
The thinking at the City Ground is that, with the club struggling, they simply cannot afford to lose their one guaranteed source of goals.
As a result, it looks like West Ham will have to look elsewhere to reinforce our striking options this winter. Tomorrows game against Arsenal will be revealing, because if the irons new coach again uses Niclas Fullkrug for the full 90 mins, it may indicate that he is less than happy with his striking options.

If true, what a relief, we need young strikers, we already have Fullkrug and Wilson making up dad’s army, we should be going for someone like Sorloth who has pace and directness or heaven forbid giving the academy a shot it.
So, in a parallel universe, where we do actually sign him, we’d have a choice of 3 CFs with a combined age of virtually 100!
Brave new world eh?
West Ham linked with 33 year old striker. Some things never change.
Agree with previous comment.
What is wrong with us?
Can’t we at least look at someone under 30.
WTF
Deja vu indeed
Are we now playing in the veterans league
