“You Must be Joking” | Bookies Reveal Top Three for West Ham Job

With West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui facing a must-win game against Everton this weekend, bookmakers have begun shortening their odds on the Spaniard’s tenure with the Hammers.

Lopetegui’s odds to be the next Premier League manager to leave have dropped from 12/1 to just 9/4 after our 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. This leaves the 58-year-old second only to Southampton boss Russell Martin in the sack race odds.

However, the list of bookmakers’ candidates to replace J-Lo makes for chilling reading, particularly the top three names.

Graham Potter, Edin Terzic, and Gareth Southgate top the list of potential replacements, all sharing one notable factor: they’re out of work.

Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva of Fulham, and Brentford’s Thomas Frank have rightly emerged as standout realistic candidates, gaining traction among Irons fans. All have excelled at smaller clubs than West Ham and meet the club’s unofficial requirement of having Premier League experience.

Despite the bookmakers’ top three, it’s hard to see West Ham appointing Gareth Southgate. Lopetegui might yet keep his job if he wins convincingly against Everton.

If he doesn’t, it seems bookmakers have a clear idea of who the Hammers board may target.

I’d be happy with Potter. Would Potter be happy with working with whatever players are given to him by Steidten? Is he a head coach like Lopetegui or is he a manager like Moyes?

  • Dave says:

Firstly the stadium is crap, cheap option that removes the supporters from the action, whoever thinks it’s a good stadium for football needs their eyes tested.
Secondly, Sullivan ( west ham) has spent the 6th highest on transfers in the past 5 years. The recruitment has generally been crap and we’ve wasted tens of millions.
You buy crap players, you get crap teams.
Recruitment is down to Steiden and the scouting network he’s put together. He’s the one people should be questioning….

Is it all J-Lo’s fault? This guy has managed Porto, Sevilla and Real Madrid, they are not small clubs so he must have more of a clue than it seems at the moment? I think its apparent from his antics on the touchline that at least some of the players aren’t obeying instructions and above all that what is going on with Sullivan and Tim?

    • Paul Lewis says:

What instructions? I cant understand a word he says in his interviews, let alone the players understanding what he is saying on the touchline when he is ranting!!

  • Zahama says:

If I were Marco Silva , Thomas Frank or Andoni Iraola why would I want to leave a club where I am doing well and where I am appreciated to come and sort out the mess and perhaps get in a relegation battle

My vote for someone to sort out the mess would be Potter

Sullivan is the biggest problem we have his appointment of JL shows just how big a problem he is if and that’s a big if he gets rid of JL and brings in a top quality manager regardless of having to pay a release clause then just maybe we can believe that he has the club’s best interest at heart but he won’t do that as he hates parting with money everything is on the cheap with him I know that we spent a lot of money on new players but regardless of who took over from moyes the squad had to be added to given the state he left the squad in and now we are struggling in the league and that is Sullivans fault as for JL he doesn’t have a clue how to get the best out of the players totally clueless when it comes to tactics if the board do not act now it’s going to be a very difficult season with the real prospect of being relegated

Im pretty certain ill be watching West Hams last game on Saturday under Lopetegui! I can see lowly Everton beating us! 😳

  • Paul says:

Michael Carrick and mark noble should take over

  • Paul Taylor says:

Seb Hoeness, current Stuttgart coach would be best suited if he can be praised away. They play great attacking football, seem well organised and defensively sound. Lopetegui is simply out of his depth and Sullivan alone is responsible for this nightmare. His appointment was a mistake, Sullivan is going to have to do the right thing and make a quick decision before the damage is irretrievable. The board need to act now so if results don’t improve by December a replacement must be found

I have been following the iron’s for over fifty years. And during that time , when ever have we really had a manager who we can honestly say was brilliant. As all the devoted supporters like me, just wish that one day all the gossip and slagging off would stop. The time has come now for sullivan to either pay up or get out., its as simple as that..time is running out for this West ham team who I love watching.

Graham Potter gets my vote out of the currently unemployed candidates. As Sullivan won’t pay compensation to lure a top manager away from another club then any speculation on such possiblities seems pointless.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Southgate will be found out fast at club level, I can’t say with Terzic but does seem from internet feedback he is quite negative and not a great coach of players which would match up with what happened when he was here with Slaven so we should steer clear, what we need is Graham Potty Time and to bring the fun back into our football COYI !!!

  • John Harrison says:

It’s a strong squad and the big stadium can be an advantage once we get the head lease, as I believe we will. The problem is the kind of manager Sullivan selected. He neither inspires the players nor gets things right tactically. That can be fixed. Potter would be my first choice, but I’d also be fine with Terzic.

  • John Ayris says:

Southgate has said that he wants to take at least a year out. Potter and Terzic I’d say are likely.

  • Joseph says:

Southgate ffs the fans need to make it loud and clear that that is a big no…Always wanted Silva as our manager he had a buyout clause of just £5million last season but of course Sullivan would never do that and that clause is no longer there…we always make the wrong decisions or rather Sullivan does it’s about time other board members sttod up to the little man and stop him destroying our club..14 years he’s been here he ripped us away from our spiritual home spouting all the nonsense under the sun for Gods sake just go will you

    • Robin Ashby says:

Totally degree. We have a great stadium and a great squad. We have just made an error with the manager. Let’s not get carried away
