Young guns may step up at Burnley

RiceSlaven Bilic could be tempted to give two under 23 prospects a taste of first team action during the final game of the season at Burnley on Sunday.

Declan Rice  (pictured right) – who was described as “quite outstanding” during the Play Off final victory over Newcastle last night could make an appearance along with Domingos Quina who has been training with the first team.

Quina and Rice are very highly rated indeed and it will come as no surprise to see them get some game time at Turf Moor.

Tony Martinez – with 14 goals from 14 appearances es – and midfielder Nathan Holland are also pressing for first team call ups as we head into the final 90 minutes of the season.

James Collins – who ,looked particularly out of sorts at the weekend – could step aside for Angelo Ogbonna but Rice, who has been on the bench several times already this term, could get the nod in a substitute role.

  1. Holland came off injured last night so unless it is not serious I doubt he would be available, would be good to see the others though COYI !!!

  2. We have struggled for strikers all season yet Martinez was never considered, while our defence has been shocking and Oxford or Rice would surely have been better.

Much though I like him Bilic is incapable of spotting talent on the training pitch: Antonio and Obiang would still be waiting for their debuts if injuries hadn’t forced him to play them.

Sadly our talented youngsters should go elsewhere unless the Davids can force Bilic to give them a chance.

    • My thoughts exactly re Martinez.

    • You mean the same Reece Oxford who couldnt get in the Reading team or Martinez who has been out injured for over two months.
You think that a whole coaching set up and staff dont know how these players are progressing but you know enough to say they should go elsewhere.
Sorry but are you on the training ground every day to make this bold presumption that Bilic cant spot talent. What a load of pony.

      • I agree with SaffronHammer about Reece Oxford. I don’t mean the same Reece Oxford who couldnt get in the Reading team…. I mean the same Reece Oxford who had Ozil in his pocket 18 months ago. It was a miracle that we managed to get this lad to sign and yet treat him so shabbily.

        • How do you know he is feeling shabbily treated.Rio Lamps Jr Defoe all went on loan as kids. Many others do to so how the **** can you say he is being treated shabbily. It is interesting to see you airbrushed his appearances againt Leicester and Everton.
You are making a total assumption about someone when you dont have a clue what the kid thinks himself.

  3. Martinez has to be the one given his chance! we need goals on Sunday, sadly current up front strikers are not producing them.

  4. I would love to see Martinez get a run out Sunday just to see how he does.
I aint in to all this youngsters should be picked. Most of it is based on jack shyte & at the end of the day.None of us know more than the men who work with them everyday.
Elliot Lee 2 seasons ago,Samuelsen last season, both being called for to be playing in the PL for us,both cant or couldnt even get in Chamionship teams.
The other one was Parfitt-Williams who was been shouted about by fans.More or less forgotten about now by most supporters.
Like i said lastnight very few of our released youngsters have gone on to bite our bums by turning into Prem players so i would hardly say Bilic is incapable of spotting young talent or even Hippo Head before him.If Bilic aint then the majority of the other PL managers are incapable as well because they dont pick kids either.
The coaches who work with them day in day out know them, whether they are ready, whether they could handle it physically & mentally at this stage of their development.Theres a lot more to it than just saying ‘play the kids’.Well imho anyway 😁
