Pre-season friendlies are upon us, West Ham United kicked off their season yesterday in Austria, but some of The Irons’ contracted players  have already trained with, and appeared for other teams as they seek to kick start their own careers. Gillingham have been looking at one young West Ham United Attacking Midfielder who spent time out on loan at League 2 side Crawley Town last season.

West Ham U21 forward Kamarai Simon-Swyer has been out training with Gillingham this pre-season and the Kent side used the first half of their pre-season friendly with Millwall  last weekend to take a closer look at him.

The 21 year-old attacking English player, who can also play as left winger, has been part of the Hammers’ Youth set up since 2019/20 when he appeared for the Under 18’s. After moving up to the U21’s he was loaned out to Crawley in June of last year for a six month spell.

He is contracted to West Ham until June ’25 and is a player right at the start of his senior career. How did he perform? Gillingham boss Mark Bonner didn’t give much away in Kentonline.co.uk:”He’s been in for a few days with us, West Ham gave him permission to be in for a couple of days and train. It’s a good chance for us to have a look at him before we make a decision”. He finished “Pleased to see him play, and one for us to think about”.

Gillingham are in League2, the fourth tier of English football. For the record, the Gills held Millwall to a 0-0 result. Hopefully young Kamarai impressed enough to earn himself a new loan spell and a chance to shine for a full season. We will advise of any news on his progress. (image courtesy Kent On Line)

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
