Young Hammer proves worth before seeing red

Young West Ham star Sonny Perkins was on target for England’s Under-18s earlier this week against the Netherlands.

The Hammers teen scored the opening goal in the 3-2 loss, which was absolutely packed with incident.

Fellow Hammer Divin Mubama made his debut for the Young Lions, but they couldn’t help their side to a victory.

The Netherlands missed a penalty before half-time but they equalised and went ahead in the second half, only for Manchester United’s Sam Mather to level it up again.

Holland scored their winner with 15 minutes to go, though, as Iggy Houben netted, before Perkins was actually sent off prior to full-time due to an off-ball incident.

At U19 level, Jamal Baptiste was an unused substitute as England beat Andorra 4-0.

Aji Alese, the Hammers’ U23 captain, played 78 minutes for his country at U20 level in the 2-0 defeat to Portugal, while Pierre Ekwah started for France’s U20s against Germany in a 3-2 defeat.

A mixed bag for the Hammers’ kids.
