Young Hammer Kelly signs new deal
West Ham United midfielder Patrick Kelly has inked a new two-and-a-half-year contract. In this instalment of my series closely examining some of our young players, it felt fitting to start with Kelly.
I had the opportunity to observe the young player up close when I attended the under-21s match against Wycombe on Tuesday night. I must admit that Kelly had somewhat slipped under my radar since the under-18 team secured the FA Youth Cup last season.
Attending the EFL Trophy clash with expectations of several players, the Irishman wasn’t initially on my radar. However, I was immediately impressed with his energy, awareness, and ability to carry the ball. Kelly seemed to have a solid partnership and understanding with Lewis Orford.
Throughout the game, Kelly displayed both brightness and defensive awareness, and his dynamic runs played a crucial role in the Hammers’ attack.
Whilst he may have been an unexpectedly strong performer on a chilly night in Wycombe, I’m not surprised to see him rewarded with a contract based on his performance.
Congratulations to Patrick and his family—I’m eagerly anticipating watching him play again.
