Young Hammer tastes international success

Young Hammer Conor Coventry was involved as the Republic of Ireland’s Under-19 side made a winning start to their European Championship qualifying campaign.

Coventry, 19, made his senior debut for West Ham in the 8-0 Carabao Cup win over Macclesfield Town, and laid on an assist as Ireland thumped Bosnia & Herzegovina 3-1. 

The midfielder could again be involved this weekend when Ireland take on the Faroe Islands.

They will then face the Netherlands on October 16.

Coventry has won three caps for the Under-19 side, as well as two for the Under-18s and six for the Under-17s.

He has also made six appearances for West Ham’s Under-23 side thus far this season.

Elsewhere, winger Andriy Yarmolenko was an unused substitute in Ukraine’s 1-1 friendly draw with Italy on Tuesday.
