Young Irons told to make it count against Fulham

RiceWest Ham’s youngsters have been told to “get off on the right foot” and “make an impact from the start” if they are called on for tonight’s match against Fulham in the second Hammers pre-season friendly.
Academy director Terry Westley was delighted with the way his youngsters performed in the opening pre-season against Sturm Graz on Monday evening and wants more of the same.
Nathan Holland, Josh Cullen, Toni Martinez, Moses Masaki and under 23s skipper Declan Rice all caught the eye as the Hammers battled out a 0-0 draw.
And speaking to ClaretandHugh Westley said: “I thought they did well and they need to be on the front foot from the outset tonight.
“It’s all s very competitive and if they get the chance this evening that’s how they have to approach it. I’ve been in touch with them and having conversations since they got out there.
“It’s another big chance for them and I’ll be hoping they can all step forward again.”

  1. I hope they all play well would be good to see them kick on this season, Nathan Holland for me is the most exciting he has that balance and time on the ball that generally only the best players have but he also has the pace and skill to take the ball past players and he scores a lot too.

    • agree but I thought Burke and Rice looked the most likely to be considered mature enough to get into the squad this year. They both did well too, especially Burke.

  2. Rice and Holland may push their way into consderation with Quina. The rest imho wont cut the mustard.

  3. Out of curiousity, what the hell happened to Samuelson? I haven’t heard anything about him and was wondering where he was at. Any ideas?

    • I’m not sure he wasn’t in the Squad for Monday’s game. He was brilliant with Petersborough in 2015/2016 he was so hood on the ball and looked their best player In their FA cup run. But then loaned out to Rovers didn’t go well, a lot seem to think hurt his confidence. But tall lean w pace and gray dribbler and skilful.
Don’t think he is injured and hope he gets is confidence back bc he looked the real deal that year but some loans can be counterproductive.
I hope to see him this preseason.

  4. Agree Holland looked great was pushing hard making take ons and Rice and Burke seemed very comfortable at the back. We need to have at least Rice in Squad.
And Cullen looked good he had a great preseason last year too.
I’d like to see Holland and Quina or Cullen stay in Squad (Cullen might go under parky at Bolton with Burke) but rather that then go for Wilshere who have been linked with at low price or loan
