Young star and the Ferdinand connection

|

Oxford-604905Young Reece Oxford is still hoping to emulate Rio Ferdinand by making a permanent breakthrough into the Hammers team.

Despite not getting a chance so far this season, the fact that he has not been sent out on loan would siggest his chance may come.

However, the team’s form will need to turn upwards first as plunging him – or any youngster into a struggling side – is not the best pan for their footballing education.

Commenting on his early days at the club he told Goal : “The player that I looked up to the most at West Ham was probably Rio Ferdinand because he was the same position as me,’ Oxford told Goal.

‘When I came to the club I was a striker and he got moved to centre-back [too] and he just moved on from there, so hopefully I can push on too.

He has of course been linked with Manchestr United and City although the Irons deny there have any been any offers and hope to bring contract talks to a conclusion soon.

Oxford said: ‘I just don’t really take any notice [of the pressure], I try not to think about it too much,’ he added. ‘I just do what I can do and hopefully it’s good enough.’
