London Mayor Sadiq Khan has poured cold water on speculation that West Ham United could purchase the London Stadium.

The Hammers currently lease the venue, a legacy of the 2012 Olympics, and have faced criticism for the terms of the deal. However, Khan has dismissed the possibility of a sale, emphasising the stadium’s importance as a city asset.

“This is one of the legacies of the bad deal done by Boris Johnson – we’re making do with the bad deal he left us, but it’s one of our city’s great assets,” Khan stated.

While West Ham have expressed interest in owning their stadium, the mayor’s stance suggests that such a move is unlikely to materialise in the near future. The club will continue to operate under the current lease agreement, which has been a subject of controversy due to its favourable conditions for West Ham.

Under the terms of their 99-year lease, West Ham currently pay just £3.6m a year to stage their home matches at the London Stadium

That deal has proved so good for the club that the LLDC sued law firm Allen and Overy for its role in drafting the contract.

It appears that there is little incentive for West Ham to buy the stadium but one of the benefits would be allowing us to make changes such as moving seats closer to the pitch – a long-time irritation for Hammers fans.

Khan should be trying to get the crime rate down in London not worry about a so called football stadium

A loss making white elephant with a massive maintenance liability? He’s have to pay us a fortune to take it off his hands.

The price you pay when you let incompetent people like Boris and the Tories into power roles.

I bet Boris just wanted the stadiun for his sex den and for him to house his 1000’s of kids!

Typical Tories driving the country into the ground and covering everything up whilst they take and dish out tax payers money to their mates, and now we all pay the price!

Is there a bigger enemy of British values than khan. The man is vile

If by any remote chance we won the premier league it would be because of that rosso and the labour party

  • Graham says:

To coin a phrase “be careful what you wish for”, Labour are already trying to mug you off and they have only been in power 5 minutes. Rachel Reeves and the rest of Labour are already trying to blame the Tories for every unpopular decision they make. This was already planned long before they got into power as they have done it time and time before when they came into power. Lets see how you feel when they raise your taxes.

He sees us as a major threat to his beloved Liverpool. lol

Good news it’s the deal of the century, the policing costs alone would cost a fortune, judging by our inability to do a deal in the transfer market, we should cut our losses trying to get lucky a second time with this one. Let it keep costing the tax payers a fortune and eventually if the club do want it, it will be given away or at a nominal fee because Rachel Reeves needs to balance the books.

    I was going to say that…! 😉
