West Ham have issued a firm and uncompromising response to Marseille’s claims that they cannot afford to meet the asking price for centre back Nayef Aguerd.

While the Hammers have not publicly revealed their valuation, Claret & Hugh understands it exceeds £25 million—and the club have no intention of settling for less.

When we put it to a top source at the London Stadium that Marseille could return with a cheeky loan offer for the Moroccan centre-back, the response was crystal clear: “No chance.”

Aguerd enjoyed a successful loan spell at Real Sociedad last season, which helped restore his market value to around the original fee West Ham paid Stade Rennais. The Hammers had been hoping to trigger a bidding war between Bayer Leverkusen, Sociedad, and Marseille.

Aguerd-Transfer-West Ham

Aguerd will not leave West Ham on loan or on the cheap

However, if any of those clubs were hoping for a bargain, West Ham are making their stance known. As one senior insider told us: “100% Aguerd will not be loaned. We’ll keep him if we don’t get a decent price.”

This is all part of the usual public haggling that accompanies the summer window, but in this case, the message is clear—Graham Potter would prefer to keep Aguerd, and only a full-price offer will tempt the club to sell.

If Aguerd can be trusted to be professional he would work well in a high line defense utilizing his best attribute which is speed . He might even gain some value . Westham really can’t afford any more losses on players and so should play hardball with these clubs .

Sod player power, he’ll do as he’s told. Keep him. As with Kudus, why should we lose money because they want to move. We keep getting stuffed getting players in, stick to an inflated price and if they don’t want it, it’s bye bye and they stay.

No chance Marseille since you screwed us over Dmitri Payet.

  • Cus says:

We should keep him. He’d work well with Todibo and Kilman.

About the first bit of common sense that’s come out of West Ham for a long time !
