Zaba drops heavy “I’m staying” hint

|

Pablo Zabaleta has dropped a heavy hint that he’s likely to extend his contract at West Ham after the club made it clear they want him to stay for a third year.

The veteran right back- talking to  El Intransigente about any likelihood of a return to his first club San Lorenzo – made it clear for the first time that he was happy at West Ham and his family were enjoying life in London.

Insiders at the club have already told ClaretandHugh in a story published earlier this week that they see him as a superb player and great influence at the club declaring they wanted him to remain for another year.

Now Zaba’s indication that a longer stay in London is on the cards will be great news for Manuel Pellegrini who is a huge fan of the player following their time together at Manchester City.

Having arrived on a free contract from the Etihad two years ago, Zaba has produced a series of quality performances which have made him a fans favourite.

And his words to El Intransigente seem designed to break the news gently to his fans in South America that he is not yet ready to return to his starting place in the game.

He said: “My contract in England ends in June and I have the possibility of renewing but football changes and I’ll wait for the right moment [before making a decision].

“Right now I feel happy here and my family is happy living in London. I’ve spent most of my career in England, I’ve been here for 11 seasons.

“I came to West Ham to continue playing and have more game time. I’ve started 80 per cent of the games and this is what I was looking for.”
