West Ham striker Mauro Zarate was at his old club Velez Sarsfield in Argentina yesterday fuelling speculation that a return to Argentina could be on the cards after a disappointing loan spell with QPR this season.
Zarate managed just 71 minutes on the pithc for relegated QPR after his January arrival on loan. He made just four second half substitutions for the Hoops against Burnley, Southampton, Sunderland and Hull, three of which resulted in losses.
Zarate was fined two weeks’ wages worth £80,000 for throwing a tantrum before QPR’s defeat against Liverpool.
Reports in Argentina suggest he trained with his old team yesterday with Velez Sarsfield fans present begging for his return.
Zarate is in Argentina with his family after the season finished on Sunday.
A West Ham club insider told Claret and Hugh this morning “It would be very rare that we’d let a player train with another club”
